Halloween Masquerade Ball
Who: The Newcomer Political Party and The Newcomers!
When: October 27th, 7:00pm till Morning Sirens.
Where: The Newcomer Community Center
Summary: Time for some Halloween Masquerade Fun!
Warnings: Anything is possible!
The Community Center has been transformed into a sophisticated autumn dance hall, with bits of Halloween decorations around the room. When the door opens, you find yourself in the hall before the main room, someone ready to take your coat, if you have one, and another ready to give out bracelets. That way no one who shouldn't be drinking won't be able to.

The dance floor is surrounded by a number of small, round tables, each with an elaborate centerpiece of cobwebs. There are lights within the hanging decorations, with draped fabric over the sides, to give it a more close knit feeling. At the head of all the tables is a bar serving free drinks and cocktails to anyone over age. There is also a buffet

And then, of course, there is the dance floor, where people are dancing to the music supplied by two talented DJs, lights blinking and the room ready for everyone to have a good time.

Last call for food is two hours before sirens, and then the last call for drinks is an hour before the party finishes. You might want to be careful when it gets to be that time, though. Around 1:00 am, the party is going to change, due to a series of unfortunate events. You may not be very hungry or thirsty for awhile after.

Break doesn't try to pull from Stein's grip; he just - wiggles his fingers. ]
I'm having a look, just like you were. Or is there something you don't want me to see?
no subject
I'm not hiding any candy in my hair, Break.

[ Stein isn't letting go, and though he's quite certain of his own strength, employing the old magician's trick of misdirection seems a more elegant solution. Certainly more entertaining.
As Stein is sitting down, it's easy enough for Break to leverage himself into Stein's lap. With his free hand, he sets about patting down Stein's jacket pockets. ]
So you're hiding candy somewhere else, then?
no subject
Right here.
[He'll just press those into your free hand, Break. Candy in one hand, Stein holding the other, and Break is probably not going to be able to make a grab for the screw.]

[ It's probably mad of him to actually eat this candy corn. But Hatter's influence is eating away not only at his judgement, but also his (admittedly undeveloped) sense of self-preservation. He tosses a few of the candies into his mouth and chomps them merrily.
In the meantime, he lets his hand go limp. Eventually Stein will tire of holding it, and then he'll reach again. ]
no subject
When Break's hand goes limp, Stein pulls it down off his head, not wanting to risk just letting go and giving Break the opportunity to grab the screw.]
How are you enjoying the party so far?
[This situation is vaguely reminiscent of the last party he attended, taunting back-and-forth with someone potentially dangerous. Break is nowhere near as much a threat, or a temptation, as Medusa.]
no subject
Well - I've got a big man holding my hand and giving me candy.
[ He tosses back the last of the candy corn. He's slightly disappointed that it's just candy. ]
I'd say it's going pretty well~♥
no subject
Well, I'm sorry to ruin your night, but I'm out of candy.

1. Stein is sensitive about having his head touched, where the fabled screw lives.
2. He's not sensitive about having his lap sat in, nor his pockets patted, so it's not merely a personal space issue.
3. He's not self-conscious, otherwise he'd mind having a grown man publicly sitting in his lap at a party. Thus he's not embarrassed about the screw (moreover, everyone else seems to know it's there just by looking).
4. He carries candy (irrelevant to the screw issue, just a useful fact!)
Ergo, if Stein doesn't want that screw touched, it must be because it's a vulnerability. ]
I won't ruin your night, either. I won't hurt you.
[ He lifts his free hand (that had been holding the candy corn) and reaches up - slowly, this time, obviously not grabbing. ]
I just want to see.
no subject
Break is not going to be the first name on that list.
Stein catches the other man's wrist, stopping him from further movement.]
You're going to need sight for that.
no subject
He makes a show of struggling against Stein's grip, though his smile is as bright as ever. ]
Is that sooooooo~?
You want another go at it, hmmm?
no subject
I did promise to see what I could do to help you. I hate giving up after just one attempt.
no subject
I haven't trusted the information from my eye for some time. I've adapted. Besides...
[ He pauses, weighing his options. His default is not to entrust anyone with his secrets; to take all his burdens onto himself. However, if he has learned anything from what's happened to him here, it's that he has to accept help sometimes. ]
...my vision is the least of my problems, right now.

[Subtle enough, Break?]

BIRDS OF A FEATHER HA! HA! HA!
no subject
"Birds of a feather", miss?

YOU'RE BOTH BARKING!

--that's enough, Emily!

[ He slides off of Stein's lap and stands. He tips his hat, jauntily. ]
...if I'm looking for assistance from a man with a screw through his head! ♥
no subject
It's just an aesthetic modification to an already existing surgery. [Lobotomy, removal of a part of the brain to modify thought patterns.
The tap of a blunt fingernail against the head of the screw.]
It helps me think.
no subject
How, er, lovely for you.
[ URK! He starts to edge away. ]
Having experienced your brand of surgery already, I must say that once is enough. And as for Emily here--
I'LL PASS!
