Halloween Masquerade Ball

Who: The Newcomer Political Party and The Newcomers!
When: October 27th, 7:00pm till Morning Sirens.
Where: The Newcomer Community Center
Summary: Time for some Halloween Masquerade Fun!
Warnings: Anything is possible!

The Community Center has been transformed into a sophisticated autumn dance hall, with bits of Halloween decorations around the room. When the door opens, you find yourself in the hall before the main room, someone ready to take your coat, if you have one, and another ready to give out bracelets. That way no one who shouldn't be drinking won't be able to.



The dance floor is surrounded by a number of small, round tables, each with an elaborate centerpiece of cobwebs. There are lights within the hanging decorations, with draped fabric over the sides, to give it a more close knit feeling. At the head of all the tables is a bar serving free drinks and cocktails to anyone over age. There is also a buffet



And then, of course, there is the dance floor, where people are dancing to the music supplied by two talented DJs, lights blinking and the room ready for everyone to have a good time.



Last call for food is two hours before sirens, and then the last call for drinks is an hour before the party finishes. You might want to be careful when it gets to be that time, though. Around 1:00 am, the party is going to change, due to a series of unfortunate events. You may not be very hungry or thirsty for awhile after.

[ Well, there's no question now. He's asked nicely, and Stein is still putting him off. A useful bit of information, which he'll file away for future reference.

He makes a show of struggling against Stein's grip, though his smile is as bright as ever. ]

Is that sooooooo~?

[Again, Stein brings Break's hand down, away from the screw.]

I did promise to see what I could do to help you. I hate giving up after just one attempt.

[ Stein, though mad as a box of frogs, seems at least sincere. Break sits quietly, making no more moves towards that screw. ]

I haven't trusted the information from my eye for some time. I've adapted. Besides...

[ He pauses, weighing his options. His default is not to entrust anyone with his secrets; to take all his burdens onto himself. However, if he has learned anything from what's happened to him here, it's that he has to accept help sometimes. ]

...my vision is the least of my problems, right now.

[circumsutus]

Mad as a hatter, are you?

[Subtle enough, Break?]

[maddeninghatter]

[ Which is Emily's turn to chime in: ]

BIRDS OF A FEATHER HA! HA! HA!

[Well, it's time for Stein to talk to a doll.]

[ Wow, nobody ever talks to Emily! She clicks happily, preening. ]

YOU'RE BOTH BARKING!

What does that make you?

WE'RE ALL MAD HERE! I'M MAD, YOU'RE MAD--

--that's enough, Emily!

Well, Break?

Haha! The lady's got a point, doesn't she? I've obviously taken leave of my senses...

[ He slides off of Stein's lap and stands. He tips his hat, jauntily. ]

...if I'm looking for assistance from a man with a screw through his head! ♥

[Stein twists the object in his head with one hand. A ratcheting noise, then a final click as the it stops.]

It's just an aesthetic modification to an already existing surgery. [Lobotomy, removal of a part of the brain to modify thought patterns.

The tap of a blunt fingernail against the head of the screw.]

It helps me think.

[maddeninghatter]

[ It takes a moment for Break to associate that ratcheting noise with Stein's screw, but when he makes the connection... ]

How, er, lovely for you.

[ URK! He starts to edge away. ]

Having experienced your brand of surgery already, I must say that once is enough. And as for Emily here--

I'LL PASS!

Now, now, it's not that bad. You won't even need glasses afterwards.

Ahhhh, forgive me when I say that's not entirely reassuring!

[circumsutus]

Really? [Stein had needed glasses after the surgery, but Break's already blind. Totally reassuring.

Though, it's less an actual offer and more just talking.]

[ He reaches into his pocket and draws out a chocolate: one of the spider-filled ones. ]
