Halloween Masquerade Ball

Who: The Newcomer Political Party and The Newcomers!
When: October 27th, 7:00pm till Morning Sirens.
Where: The Newcomer Community Center
Summary: Time for some Halloween Masquerade Fun!
Warnings: Anything is possible!

The Community Center has been transformed into a sophisticated autumn dance hall, with bits of Halloween decorations around the room. When the door opens, you find yourself in the hall before the main room, someone ready to take your coat, if you have one, and another ready to give out bracelets. That way no one who shouldn't be drinking won't be able to.



The dance floor is surrounded by a number of small, round tables, each with an elaborate centerpiece of cobwebs. There are lights within the hanging decorations, with draped fabric over the sides, to give it a more close knit feeling. At the head of all the tables is a bar serving free drinks and cocktails to anyone over age. There is also a buffet



And then, of course, there is the dance floor, where people are dancing to the music supplied by two talented DJs, lights blinking and the room ready for everyone to have a good time.



Last call for food is two hours before sirens, and then the last call for drinks is an hour before the party finishes. You might want to be careful when it gets to be that time, though. Around 1:00 am, the party is going to change, due to a series of unfortunate events. You may not be very hungry or thirsty for awhile after.

[Blame it on the wine. Now she blushes, dead embarrassed. Thank goodness for her mask.]

[It stings, but it also brings a little swell in his chest that Marius is somewhat unfamiliar with. For now, he ignores it, focusing on finding something that will cheer her up.]

Ah...are you hungry? [Stupid question, Marius. But, there's tables of food, maybe having a few sweets will make her a little happier.]

Hungry? No... I'm never really hungry here. But food. I LOVE it. Shall we try. Look - look, the food looks so exciting.

[Oh, good. Marius smiles, tentatively offering his hand to her again.]

Of course, if that is what you would like to do. [Assuming she takes it, he'll lead her right over to one of the tables.]

[She does take it, of course. Eponine isn't scared of anything. And quite honestly, food surpasses even Marius. Eponine might not be starving in the way she was in Paris, but that kind of hunger is one that never leaves and Eponine wants to make sure it never happens again.]

Look, M'sieur. Cakes.

[She picks a pretty pink French Fancy, nibbling at the delicate butter icing. It's so light, it practically melt on her tongue.]

Oooooooooooooooh!!

[She munches slowly]

You know, Papa said that is why the Queen of France lost her head - for liking cake. That's why he said I weren't to have it. "'s the use of you, 'Ponine, dead? 'oo'd look out on the rob then? 'oo'd seal the deals?" That's whhat he said.... I think I would lose my head for this cake.

[Marius raises an eyebrow.] Perhaps that is just your father's excuse for not having the money. [Seeing her so happy is wonderful, though. He's never seen that before.]

Well. You may have as much as you like now. [He doesn't take any himself, sweets aren't really Marius' thing.]

[She's matter of fact] My father is full of rubbish.

[She takes another. And another. One in each hand.]

Try one, M'sieur. They are delicious.

[He chuckles, but holds up a hand as he's offered a cake.]

Ah...no, thank you, 'Ponine. I've already eaten. Besides, I would not want to take any away from you.

[Marius is so silly sometimes]

I would not eat the whole tray. I do not mind sharing. It is just a cake. I think, really, I'm eating with Deadpool later. I think we're having 'takeaway'. Have you had it?

[All the time, really. He tries, poor dear.]

I cannot say I have. What is it? [Actually, Marius has had it, he just doesn't know it's referred to as 'takeaway.'] It is a very strange name for food...

It is because it is bought in a shop and then you take it away. You understand? 'Take - away'? It is all sorts. We had what is called Chinese - it is thick coloured sauces with meat and fruit and rice . And there is Indian - that is more sauce, but not see through, and rice with meat. And there are others... but I forget.

Oh! [And now he knows what she's talking about.] Yes, I have had that before.

It is strange, really, such things would not be so...cheap in Paris.

They are good, no? So many strange things here - I love them. I do not ever want to go back to Paris.

[Even if she's a servant and being blackmailed and all sorts. For her, these treats are still expensive - but it is good to afford them sometimes.]

I think it is on purpose, in Paris. It is a way to kill us all quickly, is it not? Or if not quickly, we will die from lack of food and then their problems will be solved. They do not like the poor in Paris. We do not have such food anyway. Have you seen the pineapple? Never had I even heard of such a thing.
