The Flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe

Who: Frau and Hattie
When: Valentine's Day, Noon
Where: Frau's Apartment then to the city
Summary: After an annoying day of 'work', Hattie goes to blow off some steam.
Warnings: None yet, if you know what I mean. AND I THINK YOU DO.

Hattie had a rather aggravating morning; she had spent so much time envying Ella for getting to work for Byakuya, and when the opportunity showed itself for her to step in, it had to be one of the most unsatisfying experiences she had ever gone through. She left the university in a sour mood, and took a ride toward the mall- But then an idea struck her, why go by herself when she had perfectly fine resources to access?

Should she call Larry? Not a -bad- idea, but that wouldn't do today.
Keigo? Not him either, that'd be -too- good a deed on her end.
Frau? Yes, he'd be the perfect person to be seen hanging around with on Valentine's Day! And, knowing him, he was at home doing nothing. Terrible.

And so she had the driver head off to his apartment without even calling. Hattie didn't bother to change, so once the car arrives, she's tromping up the stairs, in black slacks and white blouse under her winter coat, then knocks hard on his door.

Such a gentleman! "Thank you," Hattie replies to the door gesture and steps out, waits for him to lock up, then heads downstairs, "I have a ride waiting downstairs, I figure we could head to the Underground Mall." She presumes that will be the most populated area today.

As she continues on, however, she realizes she has no idea what Frau was referring to! ".. What in heavens is a 'zaiphon'? Sounds like some sort of.. I don't know, a spell I suppose."

Frau shrugged, not particularly caring where they went. If he picked and Hattie didn't like it, he had a feeling they would end up where she wanted to go anyway. Might as well just do that from the start.

"I guess you could say that. It's what a lot of people here have described it as. A spell or magic or something similar. Really it's just a physical manifestation of life and feelings."

He held his hand out, forming zaiphon easily and allowing it to circle lightly around his hand for a moment or two so she would get the idea.

"A manifestation? Like when gardens are overrun with locusts?" she asks, completely puzzled, "I don't really get it at all, but it sounds interesting!"

It didn't just sound interesting, it -looked- interesting as well. She jumped in surprise upon seeing the demonstration, but then laughed in delight, "That is -amazing-! So you hit people with it if you have to? That sounds a lot more convenient than martial arts- Am I capable of doing something like that?"

Hattie led the way, and outside a cab was waiting. Since she didn't have a car, it was her replacement. Who knows how long it was waiting, and the female blonde didn't seem to particularly care, she opening the door to seat herself, then says to the driver, "The Underground Mall, please."

"If I need to," Frau confirmed. Usually just his physical presence solved most of the issues at work. If they didn't, a good kick in the ass followed by a toss out the door did. Zaiphon was rarely necessary.

He slipped into the cab beside her, rather curious about where she was planning on taking him. He didn't know her well enough yet to have any good guesses. So, instead of focusing on that, he turned to the zaiphon questions again.

"It's possible, but not likely. Not everyone where I'm from is able to use it. I'd guess it would be even less likely for someone not from my world to be able to use it."

"Impressive," Hattie replied; it was clear that she was quite comfortable with her current situation- it might leave one to wonder what would have happened if he said 'no'. If anything, it doesn't seem she likes to take 'no' for an answer.

One day. One day.

Hattie grunted in annoyance, "Rats. I don't know if you know of Nelliel; she's quite a sweetie, but her training regime for self-defense is just horrid. Where I come from we don't need anything like that we have Princes and Knights and, if we're really desperate, farmers. It'd be so much easier to just blast someone than to actually hit them; could you imagine if I broke a nail?" she shuddered at the very thought.

"Are women fighters where you come from?"

Frau openly laughed at that, far too amused to even try to hide it. Hattie was worried about breaking a nail... which is why she wanted to use zaiphon. It was ridiculous. He couldn't picture her fighting anything besides salesmen. There was just no way he could see her using zaiphon. It wouldn't be possible. While her personality did resemble Lance's a little bit, Frau knew that the other bishop at least had some good reasons buried deep under his massively inflated ego.

"Yes, though not in the church. The nuns don't fight."

Hattie didn't really understand what was so funny, but it was the first time she'd seen him laugh out loud so it ended up bringing a smile to her lips regardless- Who was she to ruin such an amusing moment? "Nuns? Doesn't sound like something that'd be suitable for someone like myself," she ponders aloud while playing with a lock of her hair.

From that point on, she proceeded to complain about her day at work. Apparently Ella had gotten ill so Hattie stood in to work for her. Byakuya had gotten a ton of valentines from students, then recieved a giant bear. She then explained about how she had to work with books in a language she didn't understand, had to make lunches, prepare classrooms and, worst of all, take out the trash. The tale pretty much cements that the female blonde is a bit on the spoiled side. Just a bit.

Finally the cab stops at the Underground Mall. She pays the fare, and once Frau is at her side again, she asks, "What do you like to eat? Are you interested in sushi at all?"

Frau had seen Byakuya's valentines, so hearing it told from Hattie's point of view only brought another smile to his face. How could he forget that bear? He'd seen it toward the end of their discussion over their NVs.

When they slid out of the car, Frau took a quick look around. He had been in the Underground Mall a few times, but he wasn't completely familiar with the place. It wasn't like he'd ever needed much, and the one thing he really wanted wasn't something he could buy here.

"I'm up for anything. Sushi is fish right?"

He'd never heard the word before, but if he remembered right he'd seen a sign that said sushi with a fish drawn underneath.

And Hattie knew the place like the back of her hand. She shivered a little after feeling the cool air again then smirked to Frau, ".. Pretty close, actually, the kind I eat is typically seafood and rice. There are a couple of decent places here, so let's go this way."

She took Frau by the arm and tried to drag him along again, otherwise she simply took the lead going inside. As she suspected, the mall was very busy; especially at the candy carts and restaurants. There were couples all over the place, though some of the ladies shot Hattie a dirty look when she gave them a rather smug, snooty smirk.

She ended up stopping in front of an arcade window; inside were plenty. -Plenty- of flashing lights and brightly lit screens. Normally she ignored the place since it was confusing.. But today she felt daring. "Have you been to one of these places before?"

Frau was partially oblivious to Hattie's apparent over enjoyment of being seen with him. Like usual, Frau was shooting every pretty girl nearby a brilliant smile. For him it was just habit to flirt with everyone around who deserved it. There was no reason to be jealous.

When Hattie pulled his attention away from the other women to look at the arcade, Frau was rather confused. He'd never seen anything like it before.

"No."

And Hattie was too busy being smug to notice Frau giving flirty looks; though she did give occassional confused looks when a few would giggle in return.

.. Weird.

But back to the arcade window, Hattie continued to stare for a moment, but didn't quite get it herself, "Me either. I wish I could understand why everything's blinking; I had to admit it is a rather eyecatching.. We can check that out later I suppose."

And so Frau was dragged onward again, and Hattie paused to look at shoes in a window.

After that, they made a detour into a Men's store that, for the most part, was pretty empty. "You know, Frau, I've been wondering.. What is your dream girl like?" Just, bam, out of the blue.

"Buxom and beautiful," Frau answered without a moment's hesitation.

Considering how much porn he read, he'd seen a lot of women that were very close to his "dream girl" as Hattie called it. For Frau though, a dream girl would more consist of more than one. Why be restricted?

Hattie stared at Frau for a moment. She didn't seem offended, just more.. Surprised. ".. That's it?"

She was quiet for a moment as she made her way over to the shirt racks, and proceeds to shift through hanger after hanger of short sleeve, button up shirts. Ocassionally she removes one to hold up to Frau's chest, changes her mind, and shifts through something else. "Seriously, Frau, there must be more qualifications than -that-. Or are you, perhaps, aspiring to be some sort of playboy?"

She was half-teasing, half-serious.

"I don't need to aspire to be one," he pointed out with a wide grin and a quick wink.

When you loved women, but couldn't really be with them that's sort of what happened. Plus, it was easier that way to keep a distance between himself and those who wanted to spend time with him. Nobody could get too close when he accepted affection from everyone. It was best for everybody.

"Oh -brother-." Hattie replied with a fluttering laugh. Eventually she decides on the black button-up shirt, which She handed it over to Frau, "Well I want to marry a Prince. There aren't many of them in this time, but I don't plan to give up anytime soon. Though everything's been a struggle for me since I've come here, really.."

Hattie is about to go into 'rant mode' again, but instead of doing that, she jerks her thumb over to the dressing room. "Try that on." Should he agree to do so, she'd use the time to purchase it, since she kept the price tag.

Frau glanced down at the shirt. It wasn't that he was against wearing other clothes, he had just never really needed them. He didn't see why he needed them now either. Shrugging, he headed toward the dressing rooms to change.

When he came back out he flashed Hattie a smile. "Well?"

The shirt fit closely to his body, showing off his fit form. It wasn't much different from before, since he'd been wearing all black then too. In Frau's opinion though it felt odd to have his gloves on with a regular shirt.

Hattie was well aware that Frau hadn't the slightest clue what Hattie was up to, but she'd reveal her reasoning soon enough. Once he returned, she clasped her hands together, "Oooh! That's -fantastic-, now we match!"

That shade of black matched her own exactly, you see. She'd make do with the gloves, since the way it fit was actually rather distracting and she gave a rather appreciative look for a moment. ".. Ooh. Almost -too- fantastic. All right, are we ready for lunch?" She then reached out to straighten his collar a bit, then offered to place his previous top into her shopping bag.

"While I know you're completely amazing," Frau pointed out, "I'm not sure if the staff here would be willing to let you just take this for free."

He had no idea that she'd already paid for the shirt he currently had on.

Hattie's expression went neutral for a moment; of course he wouldn't have known, and that gives her the opportunity to be more playful, "I wouldn't worry about that, Frau. When you're rich, you can do whatever you want."

With a wink, she'd take his arm again and guide him past the register with little more than a 'Thank you for your patronage, Miss Ehvenn.' from the male cashier.

"I do appreciate the compliment though~. Oh, and the resturaunt is just two stores down."

Frau tried not to show his distaste for that comment. While he didn't have as much against those with money as Castor did, Frau's own personal enemies simply fit that category by default. Leaders of a country were naturally rich. He pushed the thought away though. There was no chance he could ever explain his feelings to Hattie, and he didn't want to either. Those memories were his own.

So, instead of bringing it up, he just allowed her to lead him on to wherever they were going next.

Hattie didn't even consider what Frau's reaction would be following her comment, bragging was second nature to her, even though she was trying to tone it back a little- Mostly because she isn't really as wealthy now as she was back home.

It's very frustrating for her to deal with.

So she obliviously continued onward and, upon reaching the Sushi Stop, made a request for a private booth to the greeter. She was given a curious look in return but, after a couple minutes of persistant but low-tone arguing, gets a booth with a 'reserved' tag placed on the one behind it. That'll do.

The waiter handed over two menus, "Thank you," then to Frau, "Just a bit of warning, a lot of the seafood is uncooked or very lightly cooked. Do you have a preference?"

Frau restrained his mild amusement over Hattie's argument. He honestly didn't care where they sat, whether it was around people or not. Back home they ate at a cafeteria style community hall. All of the church members sat on benches basically shoulder to shoulder.

When the waiter turned toward him in reference to the food, Frau just shrugged.

"Doesn't matter, though I guess cooked is better."

Hattie hadn't eaten in a cafeteria of any sort since.. .. She can't remember. The female blonde was, however, a bit annoyed by how 'to the point' Frau was. She knew he was particularly interested in girls, and she couldn't even get him to talk about that! She thought for a moment about a way to get him to open up. The waiter poured two cups of green tea.

"We'd like a sampler platter, please, this one." She pointed to the menu, the waiter nodding then going along his way. "Ask me a personal question. Any question you want."

Frau lifted his eyebrow slightly at Hattie's order. It wasn't like it was a bad choice. In fact, it was a really good one. That's what had surprised him so much. He let the decision of the meal go though and chuckled softly at her question.

"What's home like?"

He tried to avoid personal questions of his own, so until he knew if Hattie would throw the same things back at him, he'd play it safe.

Clever, Frau, though Hattie is going to determine if you're really interested in knowing or not. She was surprised by the question though, she had to admit, "Well, I've been to a lot of places, my family moved a number of times." she started, glancing thoughtfully downward to her teacup, "The city was wonderful, though. It isn't nearly as advanced as things are now, any sort of machinery was usually made of wood. Very busy, very peaceful, with a kingdom looked over by a dreamy Prince."

Hattie sighed wistfully, "I lived in a mansion, and had my own clothier, and of course I was super popular. There was no doubt that I would be the one Prince Char would choose to become his bride when the time came."

".. Though that sort of changed once I moved to Frell; my mother married Ella's father and it turned out he not only lived in the backwater country but he lost all of his money or something." Hattie's mood soured at that point, as she took a sip from the tea, "Home sucks. Though I suppose it sucks less than here, at least people know I'm important at home."
