[ Helen had been trying to resist going in, taking others in to the hospital before leaving to go home herself. She'd felt herself sicken quickly, a lot quicker than she'd ever become ill before, and considering that she rarely became ill it was more worrying, and frustrating.

She was restless. The stereotype that doctors made the worst patients? Helen certainly fit that and to an extreme. She'd (more than possibly) annoyed both doctors and nurses, if not with questions and comments than with not staying in her bed. If you're coming to visit her you may be waiting a little bit if she's not there and wandering instead ]

[Which meant that McCoy was getting used to wrangling Helen (and his other wayward patients) back to their rooms. He understood why they were restless, wasting away quietly under the watch of exhausted doctors that were no closer to a cure than they were any real answers. Even under the bright, sterile atmosphere this place still reeked of illness.

He tucks his clipboard under his arm and catches her gently by the elbow as he comes up behind her, not surprised to catch her up again.]

"And what makes you think I won't go good on my promise of strappin you down, doctor."

[He won't, but then he wouldn't be any happier in her shoes.]
longaevus: (that look [ wait too late ])

[personal profile] longaevus 2012-05-18 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well... drat. But she'd expected it, and this time he'd found her quicker than before, and was probably finding her quicker each time - she was getting it didn't make for any fast getaways. At least now she was making it easier on them all by actually going back to her room ]

I live in hope.

[ It made it a little worse that she'd rather be there helping, but what could she do? Well, other than question and give comments and she'd been doing plenty of that ]

Has there been anything new?
doctor_mccoy: (i can fix that)

[personal profile] doctor_mccoy 2012-05-18 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's already turning her around to lead her back to her room, it doesn't help that they pass half a dozen doors full of moaning patients in no better shape.]

Not a damn thing yet, feels like we've been chasing our tails for days.

[He's tired, sure, but stubborn enough to have escaped the illness so far. It helped that he wore every bit of doubt on his sleeve. It was hard to harbor guilt with a loud mouth like his.]

Do you want a mild sedative? Might calm a few of those ants in your pants.
longaevus: (and around [ when you think ])

[personal profile] longaevus 2012-05-18 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She gives a nod at that, her eyes lingering on the patients in the halls ]

The more becoming infected doesn't help either, not with how quickly it's progressing.

[ At least in her, she hasn't really had the opportunity to study it. And then she gives a small shake of her head to his question ]

It wouldn't do enough.
doctor_mccoy: (Hmm)

[personal profile] doctor_mccoy 2012-05-18 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
We've tried to determine if there's any antibodies in those seemingly resistant, but the trick is... everyone that comes into contact has it, there's no immunity, just lack of symptoms. Damnedest thing.

[He shakes his head, making sure Helen is on her way back to her bed before perching on the edge of it.]
longaevus: (that look [ gave it so ])

[personal profile] longaevus 2012-05-18 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
And those that would normally be immune aren't also, it's certainly unusual.

[ She may have been tracking Daedalus and Tenma's post, plus her own immunities aren't working ]

Perhaps it was specifically manufactured? Not that it gives any more leads on where to go.

[ And she's sitting back on her bed now, leaving the covers down but resting comfortably against her pillows again ]
doctor_mccoy: (damnit i'm thinking)

[personal profile] doctor_mccoy 2012-05-18 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I gathered that. Besides that, folks like you and Dr. Screwdriver, along with all the relatively... uhm, longer lived types seem to be taking this kick to the teeth pretty hard.

[He shakes his head] If it was cooked up in a lab, I don't see the purpose, there doesn't seem to be any one not taking a blow by this.

I haven't been sick in over a century. [ Not including the magic-induced cold she'd been given here ] When your immunities are ineffective it can be rather more difficult.

Perhaps that is the aim of this? [ The last made virus she'd encountered had been made to hit every abnormal, perhaps this was to hit every newcomer? Or everyone ] You haven't been so effected as of yet.
doctor_mccoy: (you don't say...)

[personal profile] doctor_mccoy 2012-05-18 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't, but that could be a side effect of the port's little practical joke on me when I got here. [it's his best guess anyway.]

If there's a pattern, we're loosing it pretty quick in the chaos. If it keeps up like this, over half the population will be down by the start of next week. [He squints, then frowns.] Sorry, ya'd rather be hearing good news.

Have you discovered what it is that you can do? Some abilities are discovered quickly whereas others... can take years to know. [ Case and point ]

We all would, but perhaps exhausting options can help - it can at least narrow down what this isn't. [ And she's been sicker, at least she can still discuss and attempt to help ] What about something more outside the box, perhaps less conventional in medical terms. If this is able to hit everything, and hits those that should be immune faster, perhaps something different is required in terms of treatment.
doctor_mccoy: (not amused)

[personal profile] doctor_mccoy 2012-05-18 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I got a crash coarse in my abilities a little after I arrived. [He wasn't comfortable talking about it, even if he sometimes used them in his practice... it still felt a bit like a dirty little secret.]

It's a disease, that's for certain... but there's nothing to it that should be causing the symptoms that it does. It's not any strain of influenza or acute coryza. The bug it's self seems harmless and manifests differently; there's no reason for one patient to be puking his guts up while the next guy's just in with the sniffles.

[personal profile] longaevus 2012-05-18 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Even if she understands that you can't leave it there with Helen, this is what she does, plus she's curious and it gives her something new to think about for a while ] A crash course in what respect?

And multiple diseases certainly would be a little too coincidental. What about links between the first few that were infected, or those that came in? Are any known?
doctor_mccoy: (gimme a minute)

[personal profile] doctor_mccoy 2012-05-19 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
In that my 'teacher' is that type of person that throws his kid in the deep end and hopes they learn to swim. [He snorts, shaking his head.]

Looks like it started out at the cathedral, and spread through sector four. Again, with carriers showing no symptoms, it could end up anywhere. At least we know it won't go off island... since none of us can.
longaevus: (83)

[personal profile] longaevus 2012-05-19 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope that it worked, and with minimal harm done. [ She certainly knows that it does sometimes, but it depends on what you're dealing with. But she's done, she promises (for now) ]

And with the size of the island and population... it's a very literal disaster. Has anyone been to the cathedral?
doctor_mccoy: (you don't say...)

[personal profile] doctor_mccoy 2012-05-19 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well Sylar was the one that helped him figure out his power, so draw your own conclusions there.]

I haven't, but honestly I've barely stepped out of this hospital since this whole ruckus started. I don't know if this place has anything like the CDC, but I imagine if they do, they're on it.
longaevus: (49)

[personal profile] longaevus 2012-05-20 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's best not mentioning that to her ]

It would be nice to know that, if it is occuring. I'd have thought that there'd be presence in the hospital.
doctor_mccoy: (could use a nap)

[personal profile] doctor_mccoy 2012-05-21 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll look into it later. [At the very least he tries his best to keep everyone informed, even if it's just a bunch of vague answers and dead ends. There was nothing worse than being sick or dying and completely in the dark about why.]

Drink your water. [He lifts his chin towards the water pitcher left on the bed side table, honestly dehydration was the worst culprit in all this.]
longaevus: (78)

[personal profile] longaevus 2012-05-21 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She gave a nod and a small smile to that. Even knowing that would be something with how little she - they - knew.

And then she looked to the pitcher, it being more full than she could remember the last time she'd paid attention ]
Or you'll strap me to the bed?

[ It was terrible, she knew, but all she had right now was terrible humour and the odd conversation that she could get. But she didn't refuse, reaching over to pour some of it into a glass ]
