[You know? This conversation feels familiar already. Maybe they had one like it the last time this kid was here. Whatever. He doesn't remember for sure and he's too tired to care.]

I eat fine. [When he can keep it all down, which has been a bit of a problem lately.] My power slows my growth, okay? [Bitterly snapped.]

[Him too? Teito doesn't even want to imagine food right then. He's just going to settle back down, but on his side so he can see.]

...that doesn't sound like a very useful power. It can't be much like Zaiphon then.

[He's lucky to keep even half of it down. He'll have dropped a few pounds by the time this is over.]

[All the linefacing.] It's plenty useful. [Don't insult his abilities, brat.] The slowed aging is just a side-effect. Lets us live longer.

[It wasn't an intentional insult, really. He just misunderstood. Slow blink is really quite sleepy.]

[That he can even be thought of as thirteen is an improvement, sadly enough. Before, people would think ten or eleven at best.]

[He's speaking slowly, because he wants to concentrate and make sure he's forming the words properly. Stumbling over what he says would make him sound like an idiot.] I'm nearly seventy. We can live for thousands of years.

[It's amazing how he keeps finding the energy to scowl. Why is this so hard for people to get? He explains it over and over, yet hardly anyone ever gets it through their heads.]

[The flat look is ruined by a spectacular round of coughing, wherein he curls in on himself a bit, then pushes the blankets off himself once again, breath a bit weak and wheezing, eyes closed.]

'S... too hot in 'ere.

[That gets a little growl out of him . . . but he can't keep it up upon witnessing that coughing fit. He's cranky, not heartless.] Always is.

[A huffy sigh, though it's not really at Teito. Moreso at the situation in general. But with his mind free of delerious worries for the time being, he can at least do something about all the heat.

[He looses his hold on his reiatsu a little, letting a pleasant chill settle through the air. Well. It's pleasant by his standards, anyway.]

Should suffice until the stupid nurses decide the cold isn't "healthy." [Yes, he's bitter about the nurses. He likes his room cold, okay? This is not unreasonable of him or impeding his recovery.]

[He visibly relaxes at that and even goes so far as to kick off his socks before letting slip a sigh of contentment. Because this sudden chill, like someone had kicked on an icy fan, felt like sheer bliss to Teito's fevered mind.]

Ah... if they try it, I'll seal the door shut with zaiphon.

[A blink before he turns his head to give the other a considering look.]

So is that part of your power too? It's pretty useful.

[Small coughing fit before he's able to answer.] It's the natural manifestation of it, yes.

[Those arguments take a lot of energy and he just doesn't have it in him. But yes, more people should appreciate the cold.]

[He's learned proper court manners, if only recently, and so when the new guest arrives, he pushes up shakily to sitting, to not be rude when she introduces herself.]

It's nice to meet you, Miss Hinamori. I'm Teito. Are you the new nurse?

[She looks too young to be, but then, his roommate doesn't look old enough to be seventy either.]

Close. [Since dead people don't have life energy, y'know.]

[Rolling his eyes at that assumption about Hinamori.] She's not a nurse.

[But then he takes note of her shivering, and sighs. Damn it. He's not going to go making her uncomfortable to make himself feel better. Some of the reiatsu he's used to chill the room retracts, leaving it at a temperature that should be tolerable for her, while not being unbearable for him or Teito.] Better?

[Hinamori laughs.] I'm no nurse! I'm just a friend. Of Hitsugaya-kun's there.

[She smiles at Hitsugaya.] Yeah. Thanks.

[And that's quite the bit of energy expended, plus it got warm again. He's just going to flop back in the bed and heave a sigh. Too bad the cool air went away so quickly, but he wasn't going to complain if it was too much for her right then.

He does, however, cut a mildly reproachful glance over at her.]

You shouldn't be here. Whatever this is spreads easily. You're risking infection by coming to this place.

Was already sick before I was admitted.

[Don't think he hasn't told her to go home for her own health. He doesn't want her to get any sicker . . . but he also likes having her around. She doesn't listen when people tell her things like this.] Don't waste your breath on trying to convince her otherwise.

He was explaining how he could lower the temperature in the room like that.

[A beat as he blinks slowly, then points to a chair because try or not, he can be stubborn too.]

...you should sit, at least. It doesn't do any good to make yourself sicker, you know.

You need to get better too, stupid. [Just because he's in worse shape doesn't mean she should brush off her own health.]

[A glance at Teito, some of the annoyance fading back in.] And he was refusing to believe that I'm nearly seventy.

[She finds a chair and sits, acquiescently.] Oh, that. Yeah, it's not that unusual where we're from. Although Hitsugaya-kun's better at it than most.

[She smiles.] It's hard for me to believe I'm already a hundred and twenty-five sometimes, too. A hundred twenty six in June. Although it doesn't quite count, since June here isn't June there.

Aren't you too pretty to be that old? I mean, delirium is one of the symptoms of this illness, right?
