[ Ella's been pretty busy with Hattie's business and her own job, but when she had a free moment, she stopped by the hospital. She actually hadn't known Toushirou was there - not until she overheard nurses mentioning a cranky patient in the children's wing.

She hadn't thought much of it until they let slip that the boy had insisted he wasn't a child. Truthfully she had still intended to let that slide, if only because she hoped it wasn't who she thought it was...but when she inquired with the nurse on duty, her suspicion was confirmed.

It took a lot to keep from bolting down the hall to the children's wing (oh how she grimaced at that), but when she reached Toushirou's room, she tapped gently on the door, worried. ]

[If nothing else, he was at least awake. Tired, with an unhealthy flush on his cheeks, but awake and mostly coherent.

[His eyes narrowed and slid over to the door when he heard that knock. If it was another one of those damned nurses trying to "cheer him up", he was going to -- Oh.

[Seeing who it was, he relaxed a little.] Ella.

[ Tired is understandable. Mostly coherent is good! She smiled faintly when he acknowledged her. ]

Hello, Hitsugaya - how are you feeling? I mean, aside from ... this.

[ Rather than motioning at 'all of him', she motioned ta the room. There were probably cute things on the wall too. It was like adding insult to injury. ]

[Oh, yes. A mural on the wall of baby squirrels having a picnic, complete with kites and balloons. He'd love to burn the paint right off the wall, but even he recognized that was a little too extreme. He'd be horrible to the staff, but he wouldn't damage the property.] If I didn't feel like hell, I wouldn't be in here.

[Sigh.] You don't have to keep standing in the doorway.

Point taken. [ She gave a start at the latter comment. Oh right, still in the doorway, durr. ]

Oh - Sorry, I guess I was woolgathering a bit there. I... thought it might have been a mistake when the nurses said you were in this part of the hospital. But they didn't exactly believe me when I said otherwise.

[He's just going to side-eye that mural for a second. When he got really feverish, it sometimes looked like the squirrels were moving. But right now, they were staying put. His fever must have been on a down day.]

Tch. Though I'd wager you didn't get patted on the head and given stuffed toys when you told them it was a mistake. They seem to think I'm either playing a game, or confused by the fever. [If he sounded bitter about all this, it was because he was.]

[ While he's side-eyeing the mural, Ella pulled over a chair, eyeing the machines warily and barely suppressing a shudder. Ugh, those machines. ]

... No, I can't say that I did. You'd think they'd consider the possibility that you are actually telling the truth. THere are so many different species and cultures here - dragons! [ This might as well be an exclamation the way someone curses the way she says it. ]

And they can't accept the possibility of you being a grown up? It's so strange. I mean, there are -dragons- here. [ DRAGONS, Toushirou. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? ]

[Still with the cranky frowning, though it was for a different reason this time.] People are idiots about dragons, too. Afraid of them because of baseless assumptions.

[He could totally believe it. He knew the two that were here. And he had one of his own.]

Well... some of them aren't so baseless. But it is unfair to judge dragons here by the way dragons of different worlds behave. I met a rather sweet one, actually. [ She never thought she'd call a dragon sweet, either. OH! Her face suddenly lights up. ]

I bet I know something that will cheer you up.

[It's not always unfair. His way is totally fair: they're as individual as people. So don't judge until you know them. Though to be honest, he does give dragons more leeway than he gives most people.] If you don't give them a reason to attack, most won't.

[He is a dragon expert, okay? They don't attack unless provoked, they don't eat people, and not all of them are fire-breathers. Some can talk, others can't. He knows these things.]

[His eyebrow does go up at that assertion, though.] And what might that be?

Hattie told me she ran into one of the dragons on the island. At least what I got out of her - she was scared to pieces. Not that she told me as much, but I could tell. She was probably curled up on her bed, hugging her pillows for hours after her run in.

[ That girl was such a scaredy cat. Hattie fled screaming, and Ella got the opportunity to pet a dragon. ]

[... Okay, that did get the tiniest of smirks out of him. Perhaps it was cruel of him, but he approved of anything that terrified Hattie.]

Black or gold? [Referring to the colour of the dragon. He knew them both. And one was certainly more imposing than the other, though every bit as well-intentioned.]

[ She thought it would. ]

Huh? Oh - the dragon? Black. [ She grinned at the memory. ]

I ran into him while I was tuning my mandolin.

[And that makes it even better. Toothless? She's afraid of Toothless?]

Shows exactly how unreasonable people are. He acts more like an overgrown cat than anything.

[ It was pretty hilarious. ]

I didn't think about it at the time, but he really does act like a big cat. He even purrs.

[He owed that dragon some fish once he felt better. For no other reason than scaring Hattie just by existing. It was a beautiful thing and deserved to be rewarded.]

[And it didn't surprise him at all that Ella managed to befriend the dragon. She was more than kind enough, and all you had to do in the first place was show you weren't an asshole. It wasn't as though that was difficult.]

You're unlikely to find a dragon more playful than that one. [Toothless totally tried to play with him. Almost knocked him down by doing it. But he was, and continued to be fine with that.]

Are there dragons like that one where you're from?

They're not common. [Insert a few coughs here.] The one I know personally is rather full of himself.

[A brief pause here, as Hyourinmaru protests this description. Hitsugaya just rolls his eyes in response.] The hell you're not, you stupid vain lizard.

[No, he's not delirious. But he probably shouldn't have said that out loud, huh?]

[ Ella pauses at the coughing, torn between letting him ride it out and offering water - but it passes quickly enough, thankfully. She stifles a laugh at the description of the dragon -- until he follows it up. ]

... er...Hitsugaya...?

[Tiniest of headtilts.] What? [Talking to his zanpakutou is not weird.]

[ It is when the other party doesn't know that's what you're doing :D ]

Who... were you talking to just then?

[ If you're delirious.. ]

[It is never weird. Because he says so.]

The dragon. [Wait. Wait, he sees what's going on here. Have a frown.] My zanpakutou spirit. I'm not delirious.

Your ... - [ Are you sure you're not delirious? or delicious? :3 ]

The zanpak..utou spirit - that's your sword, correct? I wasn't aware it - he? spoke. [ Is your dragon spirit keeping you up at night yapping at you? ]

[He is neither of these things!]

He does. They all do. [The dragon spirit wants him to get better. He just happens to object to being called stupid and vain. Go figure.]

[ So the shinigami have magic talking swords. Admittedly, very cool. ]
