[She lifts an eyebrow, faintly amused.] Kurosaki-san, I have spent over two thousand years listening to people trying to convince me that they are "fine." This is a rather poor attempt.

[Honestly, not even the greenest intern would have fallen for that, and she is by far the eldest working at this hospital.]

You have a fever of one-hundred-two, are dehydrated, and prone to severe dizzy spells. You will be going nowhere until these problems are corrected. [Which will take more than a couple hours, kiddo.] Please lie back down.

[Said in that tone that indicates that it's not as much of a request as the wording implies.]

[Normally, he would protest loudly at being ordered at what to do, but he feels just as crappy as his symptoms would suggest and, well, he's rather of the mind that you're not supposed to argue with Unohana-san. She's a little scary after all. He lies back down without a word, closing his eyes for a while.]

I didn't know my fever was that high. I figured it'd go down on its own. Guess it's the sickness that's going around, huh.

[He hadn't wanted to believe he'd caught it; he was never sick, he figured if he kept treating it as a cold then he'd be fine. It had been weird trying to deal with his symptoms without Yuzu fussing over him or his old man tossing medicine in his direction with a surprising lack of his usual dramatics.]

How long am I gonna be stuck here for?

Thank you. [Polite as ever, when he lies back down.]

Mm. I'm afraid this virus isn't as simple as merely waiting it out. Something that can have fatal consequences. [There's a sadness in her voice to go along with the admonishment. Guess who had waited too long to seek proper treatment.]

Until your fever can be brought down and remain so, it would be unwise to release you. How long that will take, I cannot say.

[Ichigo is still for a moment and exhales. His head is throbbing and he doesn't want to open his eyes again now that they're closed. His voice is low when he speaks again.]

I heard about Byakuya. I didn't know what to say.

[It was a shock. Byakuya was strong, Ichigo's had first hand experience with that knowledge, and to find out that something like an illness had managed to kill him was a pretty frightening though. It's enough to quiet his protests to being stuck here.]

Damn this places is a pain in the ass.

[Though she's unaware of this as of yet, the reason she's been largely asymtomatic herself is because she rarely internalizes her negative feelings. She tends to work those out as a matter of course.]

[But that last statement brings something of a genuine upward quirk to her lips. Ah, young people. So succinct.] One thing after another, quite often. Though not usually quite so deadly.
