Halloween Masquerade Ball

Who: The Newcomer Political Party and The Newcomers!
When: October 27th, 7:00pm till Morning Sirens.
Where: The Newcomer Community Center
Summary: Time for some Halloween Masquerade Fun!
Warnings: Anything is possible!

The Community Center has been transformed into a sophisticated autumn dance hall, with bits of Halloween decorations around the room. When the door opens, you find yourself in the hall before the main room, someone ready to take your coat, if you have one, and another ready to give out bracelets. That way no one who shouldn't be drinking won't be able to.

The dance floor is surrounded by a number of small, round tables, each with an elaborate centerpiece of cobwebs. There are lights within the hanging decorations, with draped fabric over the sides, to give it a more close knit feeling. At the head of all the tables is a bar serving free drinks and cocktails to anyone over age. There is also a buffet

And then, of course, there is the dance floor, where people are dancing to the music supplied by two talented DJs, lights blinking and the room ready for everyone to have a good time.

[She really isn't up for all of this mingling right now, not when her chest feels tight and she's been feeling so off these past few days. But it's a party and Dani hasn't been to one in waaaay too long. It's time to relax a little, have some drinks, dance, and just unwind. You can't take the dance out of the girl no matter who tries.

Her dress is more lively than anything else, bright red and vibrant in the room. Her mask is made of lace, a little like fishnet, and it's really all she could find before she ran out the door. She's even done her hair up in a loose bun, a few strands of blond falling about her face. Maybe if she looks good enough, she'll feel good enough to do something like dance.]

[ So Jake's costume isn't very festive, but he does at least have a mask on that seems to go with the holiday spirit. The odd thing is he's got his glasses propped up oddly on the outside of his mask, having decided that it somehow looked weirder to have them under the mask.

He's parked himself near the food, taking this opportunity to get free grub that he doesn't have to make sad attempts to cook for himself. Every now and then when his plate is loaded up enough that he doesn't need to stockpile more food on it for awhile, but empty enough that it's not about to overflow and fall on the floor, Jake wanders around the outskirts of the party, greeting people as he bumps into them (usually not literally... but sometimes), and checking out the going ons of the event.

He's got his mask shoved up and his face completely visible whenever he's porking out, but tries to keep it down at least half the time what with the party being all about the masks and all. ]

[ Marco is so fucking dapper tonight, ladies and gentlemen.

With a very handsome suit and a a very sexy mask, he thinks he's pulled out all the stops and shine brighter than most of these peoples' very dull costumes.

Or it could be his ego getting away from him again; that's always possible.

But not tonight, oh no.

He's here to party hard and party long. He spends half his time on the dance floor, the other socializing with other people. He figures that this party has people who tend to be more neutral, so they don't exactly get on the higher circles of society here in this place. But Marco doesn't mind, not when he has other ideas, other plans to go through while he is here in the Port. ]

[Working security hadn't necessarily meant that Scathach had been allowed to carry a weapon on her, but rules were for people who weren't experts at hiding knives on their person, even in a shorter dress. Besides, she's the perfect person to be on the security team: she looks entirely unimposing, small and as if she's hardly out of her teens. It is the perfect disguise.

But don't fuck around or she'll throw your ass right out the door.

If she isn't breaking up fights or creeping on suspicious figures, she'll be wandering around, not touching the food except for a glass of white wine in one hand.]

[Allen will be sticking to the less-than-crowded corners of the Community Center this evening, although he'll definitely come out of the shadows to partake in the buffet (repeatedly.) If you pay any attention, he is taking an awful lot over the course of the night, though he's trying to limit himself. Free food was essentially his only motivation for coming— not that he's averse to chatting with friendly faces or strangers alike, if he runs into any.

He's also looking... handsome... in his clown costume (sans the bald cap, tonight) and the accompanying featureless white mask, which might've been purchased at a dollar store. All expense was spared in the making of this outfit.

If you want to dance with a clown, it may require some cajoling.]

[Halloween is far from Gustavo's favorite holiday, although you'd never know it to look at him. Dressed in a simple but elegant (if clearly storebought) Dracula costume -- fangs and a cape over a neatly-tailored black suit -- he's all smiles and firm, friendly handshakes.

After all, it's the Newcomer Community Center party, and he so wants to be a vital part of the Newcomer community.]

[Jesse's here, dressed as a certain children's book protagonist. He's in a good mood, always in his element at a party - and it's a nice change from the grimness of the past month or so, even if he's a little disappointed he can't drink or anything. Instead of that, he's eating a lot of candy. Join him.]

[Jade arrives in a timely manner to the masquerade, since arriving at the port, she been trying to get to used it. She haven't really lived in a city before and not used to be surrounded with some many people, it was a bit over-welling, but now she had own place - for the time being. She though the masquerade would be a great opportunity to get to know people, basically she never had the change to celebrate Halloween until now.

Jade arrives in a 3am dress, which is only used for special occasions and a mask and after having a nibble on some of the food that was on offer, she goes to wonder around to find someone to talk too.]

[Why on earth would Stein wear a fancy-dress outfit? He's got no reason for that, and he apparently already looks like a Halloween costume. Plus his glasses make it impossible to wear a mask.

So the patchwork doctor is just hanging around the bar, sitting on a rolling office chair he got from who-knows-where, and smoking.]

[Halloween was a very enjoyable time of the year for Kaito. Quircky characters, candy... what more could a phantom thief and master of disguise like him ask for? And despite his circumstances, he wasn't about to slouch on this year's costume.

He doesn't arrive alone-- it was Aoko he had promised he'd take to this event. But he does arrive wearing a flowing, red cloak, a jaunty French-style hat, and a black mask pulled over his eyes. The Alfred Noyes-inspired highwayman costume was fashioned to match Aoko's dress, because hey... who didn't like themed costumes?]

Looks pretty crowded already, doesn't it?
