Halloween Masquerade Ball

When: October 27th, 7:00pm till Morning Sirens.
Where: The Newcomer Community Center
Summary: Time for some Halloween Masquerade Fun!
Warnings: Anything is possible!

The Community Center has been transformed into a sophisticated autumn dance hall, with bits of Halloween decorations around the room. When the door opens, you find yourself in the hall before the main room, someone ready to take your coat, if you have one, and another ready to give out bracelets. That way no one who shouldn't be drinking won't be able to.



The dance floor is surrounded by a number of small, round tables, each with an elaborate centerpiece of cobwebs. There are lights within the hanging decorations, with draped fabric over the sides, to give it a more close knit feeling. At the head of all the tables is a bar serving free drinks and cocktails to anyone over age. There is also a buffet



And then, of course, there is the dance floor, where people are dancing to the music supplied by two talented DJs, lights blinking and the room ready for everyone to have a good time.



Last call for food is two hours before sirens, and then the last call for drinks is an hour before the party finishes. You might want to be careful when it gets to be that time, though. Around 1:00 am, the party is going to change, due to a series of unfortunate events. You may not be very hungry or thirsty for awhile after.

[Dirk didn't really think he had time to be attending parties, but seeing as most of the City would be partying it up over the next few days, what with halloween and all, it was the perfect time to meet and observe new people.

Going along with the requirements of having to be dressed up, the only thing Dirk could find at such short notice was his derse prince jammies but instead of his normal pointed shades, Dirk had fashioned himself a smuppet mask out of an ordinary eye mask and some purple fabric to match.

Making his way around the hall as he tried his hardest to blend in.]

[Dave notices his brother in the crowd when he's taking a break. It takes him five seconds to realize he was wearing a smuppet on his face. Well a mask. Oh god why. He makes his way over to him, gesturing to the crowd with the staff he'd fixed up for the purpose of truly looking like Anubis. His mask covered his entire head, so as to keep up the illusion.] Dude, seriously a smuppet mask? Why.

[Dirk had to give it to Dave, he looked so fucking bad ass right now. God of death ripping up the decks, man it made him feel proud to be a Strider... Much unlike Dave was probably feeling towards his brother.]

Trick or treat, Dave.

Neither. I got to be back up there ripping it up in a couple of minutes or so. [He stretches and in his current garb it looks god like. He rubs at the back of his neck.]

Anyway, wanted to see what you're up to and what you might be spotting here.

[Dirk offered a fist bump when Dave explained he had to get back to the decks soon. He was impressed by his brother, that was obvious, even if he didn't say it out loud. Striders had always been gifted with the gift of music, even if it was a little too out there for most people, it was still the shit.]

So far there's nothing to report. I've only just arrived, I'll admit that, so I haven't been able to scout around as much as I'd like to just yet. I'll keep you posted.

[Fist bump is well received, Dave doesn't leave his bro hanging. He nods once, taking in what Dirk's said.] Guy called Yosuke is on Team Free Will too. He's a friend of Nill's and been around a while. It's cool you haven't scouted much, I've only been able to do so much either.

Point of tonight is to get to know people and just chill a while. Though man do all adults drink a lot? Is that a thing?

[Dirk let a half smirk pull on his lips for a moment, then it returned to its normal stoic default.]

Not all adults, some teenagers too if Lalonade is anything to go by.

[He was happy to just hang by his bro for a little while too, there were still so many questions he wanted to asked Dave, things he thought that the other Strider would know or be able to explain. ]

[Karkat just stares for a moment, not really believing the mask he's seeing. Seriously Dirk? He can't help but a snort of amusement. Karkat himself just has on a simple mask with an even simpler outfit he'd grabbed at last minute. He's a little uncomfortable in all the red, but it's something he feels he has to at least try out.]

Did you seriously come in your Derse jammies?

[Seriously.

Apparently Dirk was putting a new meaning to the words 'fancy dress' because clearly, no one looked as bad ass as he did with the plush rump face of his. Enjoy the phallic nose, Karkat, its there to amuse you.]

Man, my jammies are the boss, don't be knocking them. Where'd you get that cape from anyway, Dave loan you it?

[He rolls his eyes as he tugs the cape a little bit further around himself.]

Dave gets a hernia if I so much as graze his shitty cape. I picked this up at a store today, figured I'd put less effort into this piece of shit and just wait till the other one to get a real outfit.

[He lets the comment about Dave slide this time, that's his brother you're talking about Karakt, but it is kind of true, so Dirk says nothing for now.

What he does do however, is focus on the second part of Karkat's comment.]

Why wouldn't I? It's not like these things happen often.

[And the fact that he may have a few idealistic views on what a formal masked ball shoud be like and is really looking more foward to the other one than this one. But those are personal reasons.]

I'll let you in on a little secret... This shit happens once a year, that's pretty often if you lead a long healthy life.

[Dirk has is own reasons too for wanting to go to both balls, mostly because he's still in research mode. He wants to watch as many people as he can at one time, what better place than a ball. He might even let his hair down and dance the odd dance now and then too. Maybe.]

[ And yet somehow he still stands out! Mostly because of the smuppet mask. No sensible human being that Jake knows would be caught dead wearing something like that. Then again, Jake's also pretty sure that most sensible human beings don't even know what smuppets are. The point here being that Dirk's mask gives him away.

Jake'll just be making his way over to him, having a suit on hand, and a recently acquired mask. ... He may or may not be wearing his glasses over top of the rubber mask... meaning he's definitely wearing his glasses over the rubber mask like a doofus.

And if those weren't enough of a giveaway he's raising his hand up and waving in way of greeting, making at least one person in the nearby vicinity duck to avoid getting smacked in the face. ]

Strider! There you are!

[That statement makes no sense at all, if most human beings were sensible, then they would know what a smuppet was, and just how awesome plushies were.

However, Jake has a point. Not everyone or anyone is brave enough to flounce around in such a unique mask. Then again, the same could be said about Jake's choice. Apparently these two were as hopeless as one another with regards to this occasion.]

Greetings Skeletor, did you get lost on your way to Castle Grayskull? I can lead you there if you like?

[Dirk smirked from under his plush mask.]

[ They'll simply have to agree to disagree, because out of Dirk's many, many interests... ... Okay, no in all honesty Jake can't even say that Dirk's weird puppet obsession is even the weirdest thing Dirk is into, but it's still pretty bizarre if you ask him!

Jake does have to roll his eyes at the He-Man reference. Though he did have to admit for a villain Skeletor has a pretty badass villain. Jake enjoyed Frank Langella's performance as the character in the 1987 film Masters of the Universe. ... And yes, that is Jake's familiarity with the series. Absolutely no one should be surprised by the fact. ]

Think you'll be able to find the way for us, Beast Man?

[ Haha... and speaking of Dirk's other interests... ]

[What the hell are you talking about? Dirk's interests are perfectly normal for a teen his age. Music, gaming, ponies, fancy Santa statues, robots... Robots that look almost identical to yourself, ventriloquist dummies and... Okay, we'll just stop that right there.

Dirk wouldn't be surprised by Jake's familiarity with the series, he's pretty sure Jake probably has a copy of it up there on a shelf along with Flash Gordon and Dune.]

Beast man, really? My ears aren't a pointed as his now are they?

[Good call Jake, Dirk takes no offence as he recalled Beast man as a burt orange hue, if not a little bulky and well.. hairy.]

Jake scoffs at Dirk's comment, putting a hand to his chin, or the chin of his mask anyways, pretending to contemplate this question for a moment. ]

Now that you mention it, they might be a little sharper than comes standard for most people.

Dune is shit, all those old school movies were shit. What Jake needed to watch was some SB&HJ on the silver screen, now there was a movie worth watching.]

[Unnerving? Surely they thought it was mesmerising!? No? Oh well, each to their own.

Dirk had noticed the male staring at him however, and of course took it upon himself to walk over and investigate. After all, he wasn't the only one dressed a little strange.]

They got Crusher in that?

[He pointed to the punch that was resting on the table with the other drinks. Dirk was looking for a flavour he favoured from back home if they had it.]

[ recognizing that voice... well that's. that's a little unexpected. ]

A drink you know? I'm afraid I'm not familiar even with these.

[Dirk recognized the man too. He finally offered a hand, going for the more normal approach than his usual fist bump.]

Its Dirk, I believe we met over the network when I arrived.

[Tossing a glance back to the drinks.]

Yeah, I would have made sure I had some on me if I'd known I was going to arrive here.

[ still not over the puppet mask, but sure, he shakes anyway. maybe it's some kind of bizarre fashion?? ]

Yeah. I'm Fakir. And do you think really this city would have it?

[Its a bizarre fashion alright, one unique to Dirk.]

You'd think with the amount of Newcomers it drags in, fragments of their worlds would get sucked up too. Apparently not. Still, I'll keep searching until I find some, its the little things that count after all.
