By the time it subsides, it's as if all strength has left him, and he sags into the pillows.]
Why? [His voice is small, pleading. Maybe not even directed at Sora.] Why her and not me? Why am I still here if she can't be?
no subject
Hey-- Don't even talk like that!
no subject
[He doesn't mean it, doesn't want Sora to stay quiet or go away and leave him even more alone, but all he can think of is how much this hurts and how it's so hard even to breathe now. He flattens his palm against his eyes and curls away. He just wants it to not be true.]
It's not right. We were both sick. If I could make it so should she.

[Roxas may have changed he'd said before, wishing instead that Namine could have still been alive. But hearing Roxas wonder why he didn't follow Namine is something he can't stand, can't leave alone.
Everything he'd said to the other in his sleep comes flooding out now that he's awake. It hits far too close to home to be levelheaded about it.]
Don't ever say that again. Because even if it wasn't fair Namine didn't make it, wondering why you didn't go too isn't fair to everybody you'd leave behind. Not even close!

But he can no more hide from the knowledge than he can get up and run from this hospital bed. And he can't run from Sora's words.[
None of this is fair. Not any of it.
Not to her.

I wished I could'a helped her, or found a way to make her better. Or even gotten to be there with her near the end. There's so many things I wanted to tell her and never did. Things I wanted to show her, and stuff I wanted to do.
[It gets harder and harder the more he thinks about it.]
That's why you've gotta get better. I got meet you like I always wanted, right here in the Port. I learned about you, and who you were. I got to read your diary and go skateboarding and have coffee with you.
Even if it's really tough to get back here once we leave the port, I know I can find a way to see you guys again.
If something happened to you, if you got too sick... [Then Sora'd never see him again.] Well you just can't.

But there's so much emotion in his voice, so much feeling, that Roxas stops hearing and starts listening.]
Sora...
[He knows Sora cares. He's done nothing but try to be closer ever since he arrived more than a year ago. Roxas has been the one who's held back, for the most part.
Silly then, that he can forget what it must be like for him, watching people get sick and slip away. Getting closer to losing the chance he's fought for all this time.]
I'm not going anywhere. [He swallows hard.] Okay? I won't die. I promise.
no subject
[And as if to solidify his Other's resolve, Sora holds up a pinky. This is a pretty serious thing, okay? So Roxas has to take seriously too.]
But you can't disappear.
no subject
I won't.

Slowly, he draws his hand back.
And sneezes in Sora's face.]
no subject
When I said you could sneeze on me, I didn't actually mean I wanted you to do it. Bleugh...
no subject
[He rubs his nose with the back of his hand, not that it helps now.]
It wasn't on purpose. I don't get a lot of warning for those.

[He sounds calmer, quieter, if not exactly happy. Namine's still gone. But he isn't. And won't be.]

[He hesitates.]
Do you think...the Core will pull her back again?
no subject
[Though Sora has a lingering fear that it's different for nobodies. He doesn't want to imagine that this is it. Just one chance.]
no subject
I guess we just wait.
[He doesn't want to put it into words, but he's sure they have the same fear.]
no subject
Right. We'll both be waiting for her.
And I can keep an eye out for her and call you if she shows up. [He is a greeter after all.]
no subject
Come back, Namine. We're waiting for you.]
Thanks. Really.
