It's Block Party time! June 7th to June 10th!

Summary: It's a Block Party!

The block outside the Newcomer Community Center had been bustling ever since the block party had been announced little less then a week ago. There had been much to get done, and there was little time to waste. With the cure being distributed, the NPP's stance on everything was very clear: they would find some way to put a smile back on the peoples faces. There were stalls set up next to each other, one or two each for a different company, business, or an individual who set out to be enterprising and had wares to show. Many booths were selling different foods or drinks, while others had games for people to play. Some stalls were handing out fliers, trying to promote their business. Each stall had a sign hanging from if that proclaimed what they were, and what they were selling. There was a large stage in front of the center that was for entertainment; they had all kinds of shows for the people to watch and listen to as they milled about.

Most games didn't cost much, or they were free, as long as the person understood that a small donation would be appreciated. All proceeds from the block party were going to help those who had been affected the worst by this plague; some were still in the hospital with crippling medical bills, and the NPP was determined to help those less fortunate. Security was milling about, just as a standard precaution against stealing, or some kind of protest, and each protester was given something to eat, drink, and an invitation to join in the festivities.

The block party would be happening from Thursday, June 7th, to Sunday, June 10th. It would open at 11:00 am, and close around 5:00 pm. This was to ensure that everyone has plenty of time to get their stall up and more then enough time to take the stall down before sirens. Nothing would be left outside in the darkness, but also give enough time to let people have fun. Especially those who wanted to dunk the NPP members in a big tub of water.



OOC: Everyone can make their own thread! If you are a company or a person who has rented a stall, you can make your own thread, and it will be linked on the main post. Entertainment will be taking place throughout the day, and anyone who signed up can make their own thread or comment around. All games can make their own thread as well. Alcohol is allowed for anyone of the legal drinking age (which is 17, for those unaware!), and security will make sure nothing gets out of hand. There will be protesters on the edge of the block on Friday, but there will be no violence tolerated.

All threads will be linked on the main post for easier navigation. This post will serve for the entirety of the block party, which is from Thursday to Sunday. If you want, you can put the date in the subject line, otherwise it is up to you and your threadmates to decide when things take place. All stalls are set up for everyday of the block party. Don't forget to tag yourself in.

Violet Systems Skee Ball

[Come one, come all! Violet Systems has two skee ball lanes set up, all decked out in neon violet and cyan. The balls are made of white-painted hardwood, and the whole set-up is lit in blacklight, giving everything neon a cool TRON-ish glow. The lanes are guarded by metal meshes, so you can't win by crawling up the lanes.

But anyway, all participants who drop by get a Violet Systems stress ball (a cooshy purple ball similar to those in the VS office ball pit with the VS logo on it). If you score at least 60, you get a stuffed violet unicorn. The size depends on your final score.

60-80: Keychain unicorn
80-100: Small, huggable unicorn
100+: A pillow-pet unicorn (It unfolds to become a usable pillow, yay!)

The different VS employees have turns at hosting the game/giving out prizes, so feel free to talk to whoever's there at the time.]

Thursday around 1

[Between nearly dying from the Culpa Flu or whatever they were calling it, and the disappearance of two of his closest friends, Davesprite's not really in a carnival mood. But he's still half-heartedly searching, and he drifts idly towards the noise and bustle until, before he knows it, he's slipped into the block party itself.

The neon of the skee ball lanes snags his attention, and he goes over for a closer look. He flexes one hand idly. All he wants right now is to just play some mindless skill games. Get his mind of medical bills and lost friends and how his own guilt almost killed him.]

How much for a round?

[The wings remind Lee a lot of that Ogre fellow who had something to do with his adopted family, but that aside, he puts on his brightest businessman smile.]

A dollar for five balls.

[He thinks about it, finally decides that's not going to make a single difference with their current money situation, and hands over a crumpled five.]

Yolo. No ninja handicaps, right?

None at all. It's a clean and honest game. How many rounds will you be paying for?

[They didn't have enough time before the fair to outfit the skeeball lanes with all the bells and whistles save for some LED lighting. What is this "yolo" thing, anyway?]

[ Skee ball? What the heck? Ella had been exploring a bit, only to stop at the sight of the game and the unicorn prizes. Cutest. EVER. ]

What kind of game is this?

This is Skee Ball-- a game of skill wherein you bowl the ball down the ramp to make it fall into any of the holes. The higher the score you get, the bigger the prize you win.

[Lee totally remembers you, Ella. And... well, he also remembers you because of Hattie.]

[ She remembers you too! Vaguely, since it has been a while. Though she would be a little wary if she knew Hattie had mentioned her. That's never a good sign. ]

That ... sounds easy enough. How much?

Friday afternoon

[Naturally, Snake has sought out his not-boyfriend's booth. He stands in front of it, though off to one side to avoid interrupting traffic.]

My... this place certainly sounds as garish as your personality.

[excellentviolet]

[Well, Lee can't say no to the presence of his new roommate... and his sort of not-boyfriend in a sense. He still feels a bit uneasy, trying to come to terms with his affection towards Snake, but he makes sure it doesn't show in his body language.]

Well, it's all decked out in neon and lit by a blacklight, so it can be a bit of an eyesore for some.

[He chuckles.]

I think it's just the right amount of eyesore.

[Snake can't resist making the joke, laughing. Since he's been living with Lee, he's taken a lot of effort to not accidentally read his mind, a challenge with all the other noise and thought around him at the moment.]

So, how much to play?

[Well, even if Snake does read his mind, most of the time it's full of business plans, and thoughts on the international stock market since he enjoys investing in stocks. Yep. Lee's brain is 80% business, 20% personal.]

thursday afternoon

[Well, the prizes suck but Dean hasn't played skee ball since he was a kid. It takes him back. So he's gonna spend some time here winning a pillow-pet unicorn for whatever babe he decides to hand it over to.]

[And here's Edriss wandering over from the dunk tank vicinity, looking slightly worse for wear- or at least very wet. She got splashed badly by a particularly wild dunk, and her shirt and hair are sticking to her in an incredibly dignified way.

Which is probably the best time for her to notice someone she remembers from the Network.

Hm. Could be interesting.

She walks up to him casually, sidling up and watching the ball roll.]

You're good at this game.

[Dean recognizes the voice and it puts him on edge. Pretty quick too because of the argument on the network. He didn't trust creepy chicks anymore. Not since Ruby and Meg and the bullshit they left trailing behind them.

He turns around to shoot her down, ball still in his fist, and completely forgets what he was going to say. His eyes fall right there and he has to remind himelf that's a slap offense and go back to eye contact.

It doesn't really help though. She's got rich skin and thick dark hair and there's a million different dirty scenarios going on his brain.]

I'm surprised I'm this good. [He shrugs. He can let it roll off his shoulders for now even if he didn't trust her worth a damn. Plus toning down the truth of the matter might win him more than some stupid unicorn toy.] Haven't played it since I was twelve.

[thefourteenth]

[It takes her a second to realize what's going on, and it makes her want to laugh. It never ceases to amaze, how controlled humans are by sexual drives. This may actually give her a better means to learn about him. He is, after all, a potential threat- someone who obviously has violent experience killing nonhumans wholesale, and a fellow Newcomer who she's seen on the stairs and from afar in the Towers a few times. He lives there, he must.

So she smiles slightly and tucks a wet strand of hair behind her ears.]

It's been years for me. [Since Eva played.] I think I still remember the technique I had.

[Said with the wisdom of the sages imparting great trade secrets.]

One one hand: Marco's masculinity dropped like twenty percent when he sees the prizes.

On the other hand, who cares? He fishes out some of money he grabbed from the Newcomer Fund. He bumps into the guy playing next to him.

[mulletrock]

Yeah, Dean knows that feeling. These prizes were for little girls and high maintenance chicks. He's just playing for nostalgia.

The bump makes his next throw a little off. He was in the process of swinging his arm back when he hit him.

"Easy on the merchandise," despite his words his tone is pretty indifferent and easy going.

sunday midday

[momchester]

[It's early in the block party today, but Mary already has her face painted and is busily winging away at skeeball, trying to win the pillow pet as a present for Jinx.

[hostage]

[He creeps up from behind, sneakily trying to get Mary to mess up her throw as he leans over her shoulder and goes:]

Boo!

[momchester]

Ah!

[She clenches the ball and jumps, stopping herself halfway to instinctively hitting whoever's behind her.]

...Jesse!

[Which is her cue to laugh in half embarrassment and half irritation that he startled her, how dare he.]

Late on Sunday

[Sheila has, by virtue of her keen luck, managed to pluck up the last shift on the last day. She can be seen in her Violet Systems teeshirt and modest white skirt, and can be seen staring at these wonderful objects, trying to figure out what they do.]

[And surprise! Lee comes up behind you, Sheila!]
