It's Block Party time! June 7th to June 10th!

Who: Siren's Port and You!
When: June 7th to June 10th
Where: The block outside the Newcomer Community Center
Summary: It's a Block Party!
Warnings: Possible language, nothing worse then that.

The block outside the Newcomer Community Center had been bustling ever since the block party had been announced little less then a week ago. There had been much to get done, and there was little time to waste. With the cure being distributed, the NPP's stance on everything was very clear: they would find some way to put a smile back on the peoples faces. There were stalls set up next to each other, one or two each for a different company, business, or an individual who set out to be enterprising and had wares to show. Many booths were selling different foods or drinks, while others had games for people to play. Some stalls were handing out fliers, trying to promote their business. Each stall had a sign hanging from if that proclaimed what they were, and what they were selling. There was a large stage in front of the center that was for entertainment; they had all kinds of shows for the people to watch and listen to as they milled about.

Most games didn't cost much, or they were free, as long as the person understood that a small donation would be appreciated. All proceeds from the block party were going to help those who had been affected the worst by this plague; some were still in the hospital with crippling medical bills, and the NPP was determined to help those less fortunate. Security was milling about, just as a standard precaution against stealing, or some kind of protest, and each protester was given something to eat, drink, and an invitation to join in the festivities.

The block party would be happening from Thursday, June 7th, to Sunday, June 10th. It would open at 11:00 am, and close around 5:00 pm. This was to ensure that everyone has plenty of time to get their stall up and more then enough time to take the stall down before sirens. Nothing would be left outside in the darkness, but also give enough time to let people have fun. Especially those who wanted to dunk the NPP members in a big tub of water.

OOC: Everyone can make their own thread! If you are a company or a person who has rented a stall, you can make your own thread, and it will be linked on the main post. Entertainment will be taking place throughout the day, and anyone who signed up can make their own thread or comment around. All games can make their own thread as well. Alcohol is allowed for anyone of the legal drinking age (which is 17, for those unaware!), and security will make sure nothing gets out of hand. There will be protesters on the edge of the block on Friday, but there will be no violence tolerated.

All threads will be linked on the main post for easier navigation. This post will serve for the entirety of the block party, which is from Thursday to Sunday. If you want, you can put the date in the subject line, otherwise it is up to you and your threadmates to decide when things take place. All stalls are set up for everyday of the block party. Don't forget to tag yourself in.

Have a good time!

Larry's All-You-Can-Art / Larry's Fast Food with Art

[personal profile] laurice 2012-06-08 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Option A: From June 7-8, Larry's stall will be adorned with sketches, paintings, origami, and photographs of statues and other works he has done in the past. A small stack of calling cards is on the left side of the table, with his name, address, specialties (portraits, drawings, paintings, sculptures, origami, you get the idea), rates (overall, it really depends on detail, size, and type of commission), and contact details. And what else is on his table? Stacks and stacks of paper in all colors, paintbrushes and pens and pencils and even crayons...and two sculptures. One is of a black cat dressed to look like a queen, and the other is a storm-gray bunny peeking out from a treasure chest.

LARRY'S ALL-YOU-CAN-ART is scrawled in colorful letters on a banner overhead, decorated with half-done sketches, swirls and gobs of paint and folded paper stars. Prices for on-the-spot artsy things (like portraits or quick sketches) are tacked to one side. Art tips are absolutely free!

As for the artist himself, he's wearing a black beret and a blue jacket over a white shirt. The Mona Lisa is on his shirt, smiling as she puts two fingers up behind the head of the guy from Munch's The Scream. He's wearing black slacks and brown shoes too, as well as that round orange pendant he seems to be wearing very often nowadays. And he's busy doodling something in his sketchpad, glancing up from his work every so often to ask if anyone wants some art done, or to offer his calling card.

Option B: From June 9-10, the banner will scream out FAST FOOD WITH ART and is a collage made with macaroni noodles, magazine cutouts of food, and molded burgers, fries, hotdogs, pizza...you name it. Larry has swapped his beret for a chef's hat and he's wearing a typical KISS THE COOK apron - but that pendant is still with him, of course.

Basically Larry is still into the art gig, only this time with food. He will arrange the toppings on your pizza into almost anything you want, spread your condiments into artsy squiggles, and whip up fries in different shapes. Not only that, he's trying new recipes to fuse gourmet dining and fast food together.

So, when will YOU be paying him a visit?]

June 8: All-You-Can-Art

[Wanda spent the first day of the block party taking part in games and sampling food. Today she's back to check out the other stalls: businesses, arts & crafts, and other entertainment. Although, to be honest, she'll probably hit up the food stalls again.

Larry's All-You-Can-Art stall catches her eye right away. She spends a few minutes silently admiring his work and then picks up a calling card. After reading it over, she looks up a Larry and finally recognizes him.]

Hey, I think I've seen you before. [finger snap] Yes! You were at the art contest in the park, right?
laurice: (✦ 'Cause you're the bomb!)

[personal profile] laurice 2012-06-09 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Larry had stopped sketching in case she had any questions - and possibly to wait for an opportunity to flirt with her. But before he could think of a good pickup line or a conversation starter, she speaks up first.]

Yup, that was me! [And now that she mentioned it...] So were you, right?

[personal profile] scarlet_kitsch 2012-06-09 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I was!

[She's pleased he noticed and remembers her.]

I was helping out an acquaintance by being her model. I'm not very talented. Not with fine art, anyway.

[She nods at his displays.]

You, on the other hand, are really good!
laurice: (✦ you'd be impeccable.)

[personal profile] laurice 2012-06-10 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? Thanks! [He beams proudly.] And c'mon, I bet a pretty lady like you can make pretty drawings too!

[Smooth, Larry. Real smooth.]

[personal profile] scarlet_kitsch 2012-06-10 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[She laughs at his flattery and a bit of color comes to her cheeks.]

I think being someone's model is the most I can contribute to fine art. I'm better with a needle and thread than a paintbrush.

But thank you for the compliment! It means a lot coming from a man with an eye for beauty.
laurice: (✦ Do you have a map?)

[personal profile] laurice 2012-06-11 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, that sorta counts as art! I'm not very good at sewing myself.

[personal profile] scarlet_kitsch 2012-06-12 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Sewing is not a skill many people have the time to learn anymore. It's easier to buy something that's already made. I guess that's another thing it has in common with art.

[She goes back to looking at his work.]

I've been thinking of buying something to brighten up my room, but I really don't know where to begin. I'd really love to commission a family portrait. Unfortunately, I didn't have any pictures on me when I was pulled here.
laurice: (✦ Was your father a terrorist?)

[personal profile] laurice 2012-06-16 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
You got a point.

[OMG POTENTIAL CUSTOMER. A pretty customer, too. Larry tries to stay professional because BUSINESS TIME.]

What else did you have in mind for your room?

Saturday afternoon

[personal profile] gaveherwings 2012-06-09 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Daedalus is making rounds to everything he hadn't really checked in with yet, noticing that Larry's changed things up since yesterday. He watches some locals from a few blocks over cautiously wander through the 'newcomer' festival and eventually order some pizza from Larry, pleased to see that the block party is strengthening a positive perception in the eyes of the native community too.

After they wander off, the doctor steps in with a warmly satisfied smile.]

Well, this is quite the whimsical arrangement! Yesterday this was the crafts booth, right? You've changed up concepts today?
laurice: (✦ 'Cause you're the bomb!)

[personal profile] laurice 2012-06-10 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Larry makes a big deal of arranging the pizza toppings the way the locals had wanted it, gesturing with extra flourish and basically turning the entertainment all the way up, hamming (no pun intended) it up until his customers have left.

That's when Daedalus walks over, and Larry gives him a cheery wave with a hand inside one of those silly oven mitts - this one was made to look like a burger with big button eyes.]

Hiya, Doc! Yeah, I wanted to do both art on paper and canvas, and then art with food. I couldn't choose.
gaveherwings: (beside)

[personal profile] gaveherwings 2012-06-10 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a good compromise.

[He smiles warmly, cocking his head at the burger mitt. How charming.]

You don't do anything like open kitchen cooking at Lion's Gate, do you?

Franz and I have been to this nice restaurant in Sector 3? It's an "Open Concept"- they make a point of letting diners have a good view of kitchen proceedings. You're very comfortable with demonstration?
laurice: (✦ If you were a Pokémon)

[personal profile] laurice 2012-06-11 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I gotta drop by that restaurant sometime! [Larry claps his hands together, still wearing that burger mitt.] It sounds awesome!

I don't think we do that in LG, but I don't mind giving the demo.
gaveherwings: (scalpel)

[personal profile] gaveherwings 2012-06-11 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Cooking is interesting, it's...admittedly something I haven't really ever done for myself much.
laurice: (✦ 'Cause you're the bomb!)

[personal profile] laurice 2012-06-16 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
You should try it sometime!
gaveherwings: (confident)

[personal profile] gaveherwings 2012-06-16 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
Francis was going to teach me!

[...before he left, and I got inevitably busy]
laurice: (✦ I lost my telephone number)

[personal profile] laurice 2012-06-16 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
Francis...

[A sad, nostalgic glint crosses Larry's eyes for a moment, and he examines his mitt for a while. Then he looks up at Daedalus again.]

He taught me pretty much everything I know.

June 10th, Midday

[personal profile] gavesugar 2012-06-12 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Sheila's taking a lunch break from her job down at the Violet Systems booth. Hanging around Larry - who's such a nice guy - seems a good idea.]

Doest thou feed as ye create, Larry?
laurice: (✦ If you were a chicken)

[personal profile] laurice 2012-06-16 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Larry laughs as he flips a burger patty that seems more square than round.]

My artwork is made to be eaten today, so yes!
gavesugar: (pout)

[personal profile] gavesugar 2012-06-18 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Sheila follows he motion of the patty, her mouth watering. She reaches into her wallet.]

Ah. Then perhaps I might hath a small repast?
laurice: (✦ 'Cause you're the bomb!)

[personal profile] laurice 2012-06-23 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Sure! And don't bother paying - this one's on me.
gavesugar: (grin)

[personal profile] gavesugar 2012-07-03 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Thou art so generous with me, Larry. I doeth owe a great deal to thee in return.
laurice: (✦ you'd be impeccable.)

[personal profile] laurice 2012-07-07 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
It's okay, it's the least I could do for one of the nicest women I know in the Port! Just tell me what you want and I'll get right on it.
gavesugar: (grin)

[personal profile] gavesugar 2012-07-16 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
I, the nicest? Ye flatter, Larry. But 'twould please me greatly if ye would.
laurice: (✦ 'Cause you're the bomb!)

[personal profile] laurice 2012-07-28 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
