It's Block Party time! June 7th to June 10th!

Summary: It's a Block Party!

The block outside the Newcomer Community Center had been bustling ever since the block party had been announced little less then a week ago. There had been much to get done, and there was little time to waste. With the cure being distributed, the NPP's stance on everything was very clear: they would find some way to put a smile back on the peoples faces. There were stalls set up next to each other, one or two each for a different company, business, or an individual who set out to be enterprising and had wares to show. Many booths were selling different foods or drinks, while others had games for people to play. Some stalls were handing out fliers, trying to promote their business. Each stall had a sign hanging from if that proclaimed what they were, and what they were selling. There was a large stage in front of the center that was for entertainment; they had all kinds of shows for the people to watch and listen to as they milled about.

Most games didn't cost much, or they were free, as long as the person understood that a small donation would be appreciated. All proceeds from the block party were going to help those who had been affected the worst by this plague; some were still in the hospital with crippling medical bills, and the NPP was determined to help those less fortunate. Security was milling about, just as a standard precaution against stealing, or some kind of protest, and each protester was given something to eat, drink, and an invitation to join in the festivities.

The block party would be happening from Thursday, June 7th, to Sunday, June 10th. It would open at 11:00 am, and close around 5:00 pm. This was to ensure that everyone has plenty of time to get their stall up and more then enough time to take the stall down before sirens. Nothing would be left outside in the darkness, but also give enough time to let people have fun. Especially those who wanted to dunk the NPP members in a big tub of water.



OOC: Everyone can make their own thread! If you are a company or a person who has rented a stall, you can make your own thread, and it will be linked on the main post. Entertainment will be taking place throughout the day, and anyone who signed up can make their own thread or comment around. All games can make their own thread as well. Alcohol is allowed for anyone of the legal drinking age (which is 17, for those unaware!), and security will make sure nothing gets out of hand. There will be protesters on the edge of the block on Friday, but there will be no violence tolerated.

All threads will be linked on the main post for easier navigation. This post will serve for the entirety of the block party, which is from Thursday to Sunday. If you want, you can put the date in the subject line, otherwise it is up to you and your threadmates to decide when things take place. All stalls are set up for everyday of the block party. Don't forget to tag yourself in.

Struggle Arena - Duration of the party

[What's that, Siren's Port? You want to dress up in ridiculous gear and beat the balls off of each other? Step right up to the Struggle Arena, hosted by Joe, Roxas and Xion!

Winners get a cheap crappy prize and bragging rights!]

[When Axel sees the Struggle Arena something tweaks almost painfully at his insides. Oh, jeez, he wasn't expecting this, exactly... It shouldn't send his heart--so to speak--plummeting to the pit of his stomach the way it does; it's not like Roxas remembers this game the way Axel does. It's not like Roxas associates the Struggle game with one of the most painful things he ever had to do. Roxas apparently wound up here before his life even got that far. Somehow. Ugh, this whole time paradox thing still makes his head spin sometimes.

[Okay, enough reminiscing! He's here to support Roxas in this competition, after all, no sense letting the past (in a manner of speaking? Sort of?) put a damper on it. He scans the crowd for Roxas and Xion.]

[Xion is diligently... sticking balls onto the harnesses. She's got replacement sticky velcro dots and two big buckets of red and blue balls, and she's taking her role very seriously.

When you go for the balls, everything's got to be just right so they'll come off, and she's spent a lot of time whacking Joe with the foam covered bats this week to make sure the gear is perfect.]

Hey Roxas, do you think we've got enough balls?

Yeah, there are plenty of balls. Don't worry, we've got some extra boxes of balls in the box.

[He looks up for a moment and grins when he sees Axel. Their best friend has got to try this.]

Hey, Axel! Come on over. You wanna play?

[He ambles over, hands in his pockets, peering curiously at all the gear. He didn't really have a chance to appreciate the rules of the game last time he encountered it, after all. He grins and nudges Xion with the toe of one shoe.]

You're gonna kick all the boys' butts, right Xion?

[When Roxas asks him to have a go at it, however, he waves both hands.]

Ah... no I don't think so. [He gave an awkward chuckle.] I'm here to cheer you guys on. Besides, I get terrible helmet-hair.

[Okay, so....maybe they've sort of outdone themselves with sign ups-

Joe's been juggling himself between stalls, DJing on the main entertainment stage, the skateboard 'park' down the way, a ball and stick game that Roxas insists he has some experience with, and the Struggle arena, supposedly all the rage in a place called Twilight Town.

He doesn't mind bouncing back and forth between the block, keeping an eye on everything. It keeps him from being too bored in one place.

But by Saturday he's really hoping to see some good struggle action, since they've just about perfected the set up by now.

Wearing a lanyard whistle and brandishing both struggle bats, he calls out to passers-by to try and rally attention, really stir up some competitors.]

Step right up and bring your friends! Who's gonna be the Siren's Port Struggle Champion? You've got two whole minutes on the clock to knock all the balls off your opponent! Who will be the fastest and the best!

C'mon, do we have a few challengers out there? Hurry hurry hurry, everybody and anybody can play!

[Roxas is fine just kicking back and helping people when they need it, playing some himself, and generally people-watching. Joe's definitely more intense, but he's always been more competitive, too. It's not always a bad thing.]

Are you gonna challenge 'em all?

[Joe gives Roxas's spiky hair a few playfully light bops with the struggle bat.]

[Xion puts down her bucket full of balls and beams at the other girl.]

Did you want to Grandstand or Struggle?

[She taps her lips thoughtfully at that.]

Grandstand is the one where you have to keep the ball in air, right? I think I saw that while I was in Twilight Town. I'm actually looking for a struggle.

[After Kairi's had a chance to play with Xion or whenever Roxas strolls up, foam bat slung over his shoulder.]

Looking pretty good, Kairi.

Aw, come on, Roxas, now I know you're pulling my leg when you're complimenting me when I'm in this gear.

[She readjusts the helmet with a grin. Man, she really needs to cut her hair one of these days. It's getting pretty long.]

[Sora's heard of it, but he's never had the chance to participate. Always passing through when it was happening. He just happens to drop by the arena when he sees her all geared up. He pumps his fist in the air as he calls to her.

KICK SOME BALLS AND TAKE SOME NAMES!]

[Oh well, with an encouragement like that. She gives him a thumbs up.]

Not planning to participate just once, Sora?

[Oh sweet, there it is. Davesprite drifts over and then gives a slight nod, hands jammed in the pockets of his sleeveless hoodie.]

[He looks around the arena, taking the game in differently in person. He's in a much better mood than his first visit to the block party, though it might not honestly be that easy to tell with those shades.]

There are prizes for the Grandstanding thing, too, right?

[He's never talked to Davesprite in person, but from the vague description he remembers, this has gotta be the guy.

A little more orange than he expected.]

Yep. We separated some out that you can win based on different times, and if you set a new record you get a big one. It'd be pretty hard to beat the record-holder, though.

[He rolls one shoulder, chill as a fridge full of coolant at the South Pole.]

What's the record and who's got their paws on it?

[He's intrigued, but not particularly concerned. After all, he was trained by the best of the best ironic rapping Texan roof ninja masters, and it's in the blood.]

[It had taken her quite a bit of prodding to get the courage to get out and enjoy the party. Courage that, quite frankly, she didn't really have in spades at the moment. She was shying herself around her roommates over the past few days. How would she fare with complete strangers?

Still, she should support them. And the party did look like a lot of fun (so long as she avoided the Xino booth. Who invited them!). Support both the success of the booth and the support and any of her friends that were sparring with others.

She had to admit that she was a little bit curious over the whole sport and how she might fare against them. But no way. She's not going to compete! She's just going to stay here and cheer them on like a good friend and not get creamed by others.]

[Roxas could tell that Namine was pretty uncertain about the prospect of actually playing, so he doesn't immediately rush over to her and try to persuade her that it really is fun and she really would do well.

(That's Joe's job, if it's anyone's.)

Instead he waves and trots over to her, carrying a basket of prizes.]

Hey. What do you think? Are these good enough to get people to try it?

[Indeed, that is Joe's job. But she's a little unsure if getting talked into played a round by him would be a good idea too, with how they're kind of skirting around each other.

She glances inside the basket. It's all small trinkets and little things, but hey, a prize is a prize.]

I think it's enough, although I'd like it more if people would try because they liked it and less for a prize.

[It's all fun and games until someone comes to ruin that streak.

Of course, that depends on the perspective of "fun." Beating each other senseless with foam bats is pretty sadomasochistic. But Xemnas goes to visit the arena anyway, just to see what was all going down. And he does it with some stylin' sunglasses.

Roxas had hoped that he'd get through the block party without having to deal with certain people, but given the small size of the event, he hadn't really expected it. Looks like now's the time.

He ignores Xemnas for a few more minutes just to show he doesn't dance to the Superior's tune any longer, instead helping out a few more eager combatants. But before long, it's just him and his old boss watching the young boys beat the balls off of each other, so he finally strolls over to the unwanted peanut gallery.]

Can I help you with something?

[He recognizes that form of rebellion. Independence. A constant reminder of how much Roxas has changed.

That doesn't bother him in the least. His patience has been rewarded as the Thirteenth approaches him, letting the question hang for a moment.]

Nothing of yet. Just observing the sport for what it is.

[Xemnas removes the sunglasses after another pause, a gold sideways glance given in his direction.]

I've noticed I have not visited the coffee shop as often as I thought I did. I can only assume it was something you did not mind.
