It's Block Party time! June 7th to June 10th!

Who: Siren's Port and You!
When: June 7th to June 10th
Where: The block outside the Newcomer Community Center
Summary: It's a Block Party!
Warnings: Possible language, nothing worse then that.

The block outside the Newcomer Community Center had been bustling ever since the block party had been announced little less then a week ago. There had been much to get done, and there was little time to waste. With the cure being distributed, the NPP's stance on everything was very clear: they would find some way to put a smile back on the peoples faces. There were stalls set up next to each other, one or two each for a different company, business, or an individual who set out to be enterprising and had wares to show. Many booths were selling different foods or drinks, while others had games for people to play. Some stalls were handing out fliers, trying to promote their business. Each stall had a sign hanging from if that proclaimed what they were, and what they were selling. There was a large stage in front of the center that was for entertainment; they had all kinds of shows for the people to watch and listen to as they milled about.

Most games didn't cost much, or they were free, as long as the person understood that a small donation would be appreciated. All proceeds from the block party were going to help those who had been affected the worst by this plague; some were still in the hospital with crippling medical bills, and the NPP was determined to help those less fortunate. Security was milling about, just as a standard precaution against stealing, or some kind of protest, and each protester was given something to eat, drink, and an invitation to join in the festivities.

The block party would be happening from Thursday, June 7th, to Sunday, June 10th. It would open at 11:00 am, and close around 5:00 pm. This was to ensure that everyone has plenty of time to get their stall up and more then enough time to take the stall down before sirens. Nothing would be left outside in the darkness, but also give enough time to let people have fun. Especially those who wanted to dunk the NPP members in a big tub of water.

OOC: Everyone can make their own thread! If you are a company or a person who has rented a stall, you can make your own thread, and it will be linked on the main post. Entertainment will be taking place throughout the day, and anyone who signed up can make their own thread or comment around. All games can make their own thread as well. Alcohol is allowed for anyone of the legal drinking age (which is 17, for those unaware!), and security will make sure nothing gets out of hand. There will be protesters on the edge of the block on Friday, but there will be no violence tolerated.

All threads will be linked on the main post for easier navigation. This post will serve for the entirety of the block party, which is from Thursday to Sunday. If you want, you can put the date in the subject line, otherwise it is up to you and your threadmates to decide when things take place. All stalls are set up for everyday of the block party. Don't forget to tag yourself in.

Have a good time!

Pegasus' Duel Monsters Card Game: 6/7-6/10

[personal profile] mister_foppish 2012-06-08 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
[If you like strategy games then Duel Monsters would be right up your ally~! There's a little something for almost everyone: Magic, monsters, adventurous battles, strategy, and excitement.

It seems there's a bit of a crowd gathered about Pegasus' stall (a good number from the younger crowds) too, which shouldn't come as any surprise, given how savvy a businessman and entertainer he is. No doubt it'll be sure to attract AGI attention in the long run.

Official rulebooks/easy-starter postings, free starter decks, demonstrations and so on will be provided to get all Duelists up to speed as to how they can play. With the kind of set up he has there are several long tables—think Magic card tournament—so that multiple players can be seated on opposite sides of each other simultaneously. And of course, life point counters, which are set at each place mat to keep track of them.

In fact, It's quite organized for your average sort of stall as if much planning had already been put into it, and games are supervised at all times to make sure no one decides to try and cheat (yeah, he doesn't like cheaters so even those with strange powers will be scolded). There's also special mention to Mister Creed and the Lion's Gate, along with fliers for the people who are interested.

The games typically takes anywhere from 10-20 minutes (sometimes longer) for beginners depending on your strategy to defeat your opponent, so get ready for some brain-teasing fun~.

Feel free to stop on by even if card games aren't your thing and say hello! You'll probably hear him from a mile away as he regales people with his wonderful game anyhow. From time to time though he may disappear and leave a few assistants in his place (which he's paying out of pocket) in order to enjoy some of the festivities himself. (That and he has a certain performance on stage so he can't be in two places at once even if he wants to be!)

If you wanted general threads with just Pegasus go ahead and make them here too!]

[Iroh views the entire game with some interest. He was quite happy to try out new games. The staff he hired some he knew from Brooke's who had been displaced by the explosion. They were of a mind with him, and he had made sure they were taken care of. He examines the rules relatively quickly, and takes them in. The basic of it was not particularly difficult, but you could certainly get more advanced he could see as things progressed. He would give this a try, it should be a fun game, strategy was something he was very well accustomed to.]

[Pai Sho would have also been something Pegasus would have taken much interest in, if he managed to check out his neighbor's stall. He might just have to do that later...After all, he does recognize the elder gentleman, as they were just right next to each other!

He slides into the seat opposite him as he realized Iroh was there, offering a pleasant smile before introducing himself.]

Hello there. I'm Pegasus Crawford. Nice to meet you. Would you mind if I have this game, personally, sir?

[Iroh inclines his head in return. He hadn't expected to meet the creater of such a game, it certainly must have taken a great deal of time to create it.]

Hello, my name is Iroh, it is a pleasure to meet you as well.

[He smiles]

Certainly, it would be an honour.

[What a polite bearing this man possessed. And a bow..? What formality. Surely he must've been from the Orient? He couldn't be sure, however. Iroh wasn't a name he could place easily.

And his perception is correct. It had taken him quite some time to create the game in what it was known to be in his world.

He arranges the place mats accordingly, moving the cards into place, one deck for each of them. Being as this was more or less a "training" round he won't be using his own personal deck, this time. Makes things more fair, and kept the game interesting, really.]

You seem like you've gotten a grasp of the rules...Are you a fan of strategy games, then?

[He'd been a big fan of games for most of his life. He had taken an even greater interest them being off active duty.]

Yes, I would certainly say so. I've always had an interest even when I was younger.

Well, I admire your enthusiasm.

[Draws a card and places it face down on the trap card field; They were playing more for fun so it wasn't so bad to engage in a little conversation while playing, hm?]

I think they're quite fun, myself. Keeps the mind active, hm?

[Given Luxord's interests, it's no real surprise that he eventually makes his way over to where the cards are. He doesn't approach immediately, though. Instead he drifts at the outskirts of the crowd, watching and listening to the various sorts of table talk as well as the explanations of the game itself.

It's only once he figures he's got a decent understanding of the rules of the game that he draws close enough to hold a conversation.]

Quite the set up, if I may say so.

[It's not particularly difficult on his part to notice a man of Luxord's appearance, what with those piercing blue eyes and distinctly arranged fair hair. Not to mention the facial hair. He kind of reminds him of a certain Duelist...Albeit, Bandit Keith was much less groomed.

So his eye wanders from his tables despite himself, until at last his devious friend approaches...]

Oh? I'm flattered. I'm glad there is...an appreciation for the art of cards, even in this world.
antedupmyheart: (The mask I wear is one)

[personal profile] antedupmyheart 2012-06-11 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
There's not many who'd understand the skill that goes into something like this, or so I've been led to believe. It's quite the shame, really.

[Admittedly, his preferred branch of the "art" isn't quite so colorful, nor so involved, but cards are cards and a deck is a deck. The rest is simply luck and skill, and those are both things he's willing to work at.]

It's certainly a select few who do, I agree. Some moreso than others. That's why I thought to bring my joy to those around me.~

[His thoughts cannot help but go back to the King of Games and Kaiba-boy. His two favorite duelists~]

What about you, Sir? I take it you yourself are versed in this "art", hm?
antedupmyheart: (those he plays never suspect)

[personal profile] antedupmyheart 2012-06-13 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing quite like this, I'm afraid. But I know a thing or two about the more commonly played sorts of cards.

[He's really more of a gambler than a duelist, to be honest. But he's nothing if not willing to learn. It's boring to always stick to the same sort of hands.]
mister_foppish: (☆ So camp it's hot ☆)

[So that's why he was here. Staring at this card... thing... A starter deck had been offered to him, and he only took it out of curiosity. It's not like he would sit around and play a children's card game to save the world all day; it was a waste of time.]

[But he still couldn't help but be curious, if only because it was utterly ridiculous, and the guy running the stand was a little hard to not listen to.]

[He's currently chiding a pair of children who tried to get into a little argument about the rules, casually explaining that "one must never attack another opponent's life points directly". He does happen to look up and see there's a distinctively red-haired man lurking about his stall, and finishes his conversation before walking over to him with a smile.]

[It came towards the tail-ends of the day when Gregory Edgeworth had finally made it to Pegasus's stall. He hadn't meant to eaves-drop on the strange man when he was chatting about it earlier in his bedroom, but the festivities interested him enough to attend even for a short while. He had had about enough lectures from Von Karma about how the city wanted to tear out his bodily organs and string them up like Christmas decorations.

A pleasant image.

But Gregory was a grown man for God's sake, and yes, perhaps he wasn't particularly fit to protect himself, but were he to confine himself to Sector 3 for any longer he'd probably start meticulously reorganizing things around the apartment till even he couldn't find anything anymore. Then they'd all be in a sparkling clean mess, wouldn't they?

The crowds had died down by this time, leaving Pegasus's booth near empty save for a few stragglers and his dandy-self. Gregory had had much of the misfortune of never meeting with him on a personal level, even though they stayed in the same large penthouse. The flat was virtually empty save for himself on most days and nights, feeling slightly out of place in a house full of workaholics and himself sadly out of a job.

A labored sigh left him as he dwelt on it and then quickly shook it aside as he approached, already properly removing his hat as he stood before the seated card-jockey.]

Good evening. You're Mr. Crawford aren't you? It's been rude of me not to make more of an effort to track you down and introduce myself.

[Modesty on his part, of course, as he spoke evenly. It had been practically impossible to catch Pegasus at home. As if their Immaculate Landlord had perfectly devised their schedules so that none would meet eachother at the same time.

There he offered a deep gentlemanly bow and extended his hand in order to shake Pegasus's.]

I'm Gregory Edgeworth the... other tenant of the flat we share.

[Pegasus is, of course, relaxing in the shade with a glass of wine in hand, made hot by the amount of activity and flourish that went into being a showman. He recognized Gregory, of course, by his distinctive jaw and his hairline, along with those clothes. It was like someone had made him walk out of a Noir Film, really.

He's a little tired, but still managed to be welcoming, rising from his chair to receive him properly.]

Aaah, Mister Edgeworth. How do you do.~

[Takes his hand warmly, readily, smiling in that strange little way of his.]

Why yes...I recall. I apologize myself for not introducing myself to you directly. Things have...been busier than I'd have liked, but ah! It's what happens when you need to reestablish yourself in a foreign city, hm?
sharp_belief: (Shin - At ease)

[personal profile] sharp_belief 2012-06-25 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
[If by busy he meant near histrionical, he would agree. Gregory was, so far, the only one in the house-hold without white hair. Yet he was finding more and more wiry grey strands in his sleek black locks every morning he looked in the mirror.]

Its seems I still have a bit of adjusting to do. Though you seem quite well off yourself, Mr. Crawford.

[All of them did. As if this chaotic world was made for people like Von Karma, Mr. Gant, and Pegasus. Gregory felt like a spare tire that had yet to be changed out for a new one.]

What is your business proposal, if I might ask?
mister_foppish: (☆ Isn't it grand ☆)

[personal profile] mister_foppish 2012-06-25 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
Adjusting, hm? Well, no sense in doing that by yourself. Sit a spell and we'll have a chat, hm?

[Pulls out a chair for him, and putting another glass on the table. Have a little wine and see those nerves stop being frazzled~ Poor thing hadn't a clue, did he? Pegasus was a versatile sort, like Gant, so he knew how to blend in and make himself well-known around these parts. Mister Edgeworth seemed a genial sort though, so he's willing to lend an ear or two, if he needed it.

What an odd little foursome they made, these strange housemates!]

Oh? You think so? Can't be too sure with this kind of thing.

[Ah, that formality lilting the other man's tone was quite familiar to him. At least the other had managed to get himself out from the penthouse.]

Business proposal? Oh, you mean this? It's a card game I invented. It's called Duel Monsters. I think spreading joy like this through something fun like this can bring people together, wouldn't you say?
sharp_belief: (Shin - Thoughts in mind)

[personal profile] sharp_belief 2012-06-26 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Appreciatively taking his seat, he scooted forward sitting with a rather ridged straight-laced posture. His eyes roved over the game's painted place-mat and the colorful collection of turned-down cards that laid out before them.

He paused, picking up five cards, revealing them to himself one by one. The artwork of each was exquisit, something that tickled his quiet finer tastes. But it was the names of each that caught him a little off guard.

The Eye of Truth.

Malefic Truth Dragon.

Sad story - Unwavering Truth.

Change of Heart.

Soul Release.

He remembered something similar when a Tarot reader stopped him in the park. He had been disturbed then, he was mildly perturbed now. Gregory set them down flat, really unsure what to make of them. He thought before that this was a game for children.. perhaps something Miles might even enjoy, but the pouring of the wine gave him second thoughts.

Maybe one had to be a little tipsy to understand the schematics.]

Is red wine a required part of the game?
mister_foppish: (☆ Good sir how you humble me ☆)

[personal profile] mister_foppish 2012-06-30 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say, for you, certainly it is.

[He seemed quite the uptight fellow, so no doubt he could benefit from a little wine to loosen him up. His head tilts, and he inspects the man's hand with an interested look, though his face is unreadable for a moment. It's rare that the cards resonate with someone so...But this man, for some reason, had drawn quite the interesting array of them.

It was almost as though they told a story, really. A story of sadness and truth and loss. It's certainly unprecedented for a symbolism to present itself as strongly as this.]

Hm...Let's see...What an interesting story you have, Mister Edgeworth. It seems the cards know it, too. I haven't seen anyone draw forth a hand like that in quite some time. Only the most pure-hearted can draw a dragon of that magnitude on their first try.
