It's Block Party time! June 7th to June 10th!

Where: The block outside the Newcomer Community Center
Summary: It's a Block Party!
Warnings: Possible language, nothing worse then that.

The block outside the Newcomer Community Center had been bustling ever since the block party had been announced little less then a week ago. There had been much to get done, and there was little time to waste. With the cure being distributed, the NPP's stance on everything was very clear: they would find some way to put a smile back on the peoples faces. There were stalls set up next to each other, one or two each for a different company, business, or an individual who set out to be enterprising and had wares to show. Many booths were selling different foods or drinks, while others had games for people to play. Some stalls were handing out fliers, trying to promote their business. Each stall had a sign hanging from if that proclaimed what they were, and what they were selling. There was a large stage in front of the center that was for entertainment; they had all kinds of shows for the people to watch and listen to as they milled about.

Most games didn't cost much, or they were free, as long as the person understood that a small donation would be appreciated. All proceeds from the block party were going to help those who had been affected the worst by this plague; some were still in the hospital with crippling medical bills, and the NPP was determined to help those less fortunate. Security was milling about, just as a standard precaution against stealing, or some kind of protest, and each protester was given something to eat, drink, and an invitation to join in the festivities.

The block party would be happening from Thursday, June 7th, to Sunday, June 10th. It would open at 11:00 am, and close around 5:00 pm. This was to ensure that everyone has plenty of time to get their stall up and more then enough time to take the stall down before sirens. Nothing would be left outside in the darkness, but also give enough time to let people have fun. Especially those who wanted to dunk the NPP members in a big tub of water.



OOC: Everyone can make their own thread! If you are a company or a person who has rented a stall, you can make your own thread, and it will be linked on the main post. Entertainment will be taking place throughout the day, and anyone who signed up can make their own thread or comment around. All games can make their own thread as well. Alcohol is allowed for anyone of the legal drinking age (which is 17, for those unaware!), and security will make sure nothing gets out of hand. There will be protesters on the edge of the block on Friday, but there will be no violence tolerated.

All threads will be linked on the main post for easier navigation. This post will serve for the entirety of the block party, which is from Thursday to Sunday. If you want, you can put the date in the subject line, otherwise it is up to you and your threadmates to decide when things take place. All stalls are set up for everyday of the block party. Don't forget to tag yourself in.

[Miss an opportunity to shoot the shit with Ellen? No way. It takes him back to better times when he'd stop through the road house to get a case for he and Sam, sweet talk Jo, and leave a little fuller.

This isn't any different.

Well, it's a little different. Because Dean's snuck behind the bar to fill his flask with the good stuff when she's preoccupied with other customers.]

[ellen_harvelle]

Boy, I don't know why you think you can sneak anything past me.

[She doesn't even turn around. Yes, she's that good. But you knew that, right? Of course you did. You weren't trying to put one over on Ellen were you? Nope. Didn't think so.]

That stuff's watered down.

[mulletrock]

Figured it might be a little easier with you outta your element.

[He doesn't hide the smile but at the 'watered down,' comment he throws the contents of his flask at the sink with a frown.]

Gimme the good stuff I know you're keepin' it.

[ellen_harvelle]

I'm behind a bar, Dean. This is my element.

[She nudges him out of the way, and fishes a bottle of whiskey out from under several bags and her coat. She jerks her head at the 'bar' in the front. Then she pours them both shots.]

Guess so. By now I should know better than to underestimate a Harvelle.

[He knows sweet talking might not always work but it softened the cold exterior when it came to Ellen and Jo.

Dean hops up onto the bar and slides over to the other side like the Dukes did on the hood of their car.

He grabs the shot and throws it back, smacking his lips when he's done.]

What do I gotta do t'get you to fill up my flask for me?

[ellen_harvelle]

All you Winchesters need to remember that.

[But the sweet talking worked. Because she can't be mad at you, Dean. You're one of her boys.

That might be just the weakest trace of a smile, too. She just takes the flask and fills it.]

Nothin'. This one's on the house.

[mulletrock]

[Dean smiles right back at her, shoving his shot glass aside when she goes to fill the flask.]

You're a saint, Ellen, thanks.

[ellen_harvelle]

Yeah yeah. Don't go spreadin' it around.

[Because, obviously, everyone will then take advantage of her sweet nature, you see.]

How're you doing?

[mulletrock]

And ruin the icy exterior you've got everyone believing? Not a chance.

[Two can play that game. Dean leans back in his seat, pockets the flask, and plays with the shot glass between two fingers on his right hand.]

Better than the last time you saw me.

[Which was an easy way of avoiding the topic. Winchesters didn't share and care. Even if they were doing well. Nothing past a few words, nothing too obvious.]

[Ellen pours them both another shot.]

Not sayin' much.

[But she understands. She really does.]

How's the kid doing?

[Because Ben is a safer topic.]

He's okay. Scared the shit out of him proving I wasn't a zombie. Rookie mistake.

[And by rookie it's clear here that he means parenting. Which is still weird to think about and that shows pretty clear on his face.]

[ellen_harvelle]

[She actually chuckles at that. Because she understands.]

You'll get better. Everyone makes mistakes.

[She made some pretty big ones, after all.]

Yeah, hopefully. I don't want him growin' up like me and Sam did.

There's a difference in between knowing what's out there, and hunting it, Dean.

[She gets them both beers.]

Look at Jo.

[mulletrock]

Jo still wound up hunting.

[Dean opens his beer with the rough side of his hand and takes a swig.]

He thinks this is cool. This life. He idealizes it but he doesn't know what it comes with. I don't want him goin' down this road. Not if I can help it.

[ellen_harvelle]

Jo ended up hunting when she was old enough to make her own decisions. There's a difference between that, and someone Ben's age.

[A huge difference, in Ellen's mind. Jo made the choice to go hunting. The boys hadn't had that.]

Send him my way. I raised Jo.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. There's no way he's gonna get raised in this like we were but if he winds up going after those things himself he's not-

[Dean stops short. He just couldn't see Ben doing it. He didn't want to. Underneath the bratty punk exterior he was a really sweet good natured kid and he'd hate to see that spoiled.]

Thanks, but he's my responsibility. At least until his mom shows up, but that's pretty far fetched.

[ellen_harvelle]

[She knows what you're not saying. Because she thought the same thing, when Jo was little, when you were tiny. She understands though, and takes a sip of the beer.]

Didn't expect me or Jo to show up, now did you?

Honestly? Not really.

[He's pretty relieved at the topic change.]

But I'm glad you did. This place has its issues but it's a cake walk compared t'home.

[That's why you're Ellen's favorite.]

Haven't been out at night yet. Seen a few things, but haven't gone out.

[She leaves things like that to people who want to. She's taking it slow.]

Good. The shit that roams the streets at night are like Wendigos. They're quick and they're smart. It's not as easy to fool 'em. Takes a lot of toeing around.

Sounds about like back home. Might have to take a look around.

[Did you just call her slow, Dean?]

Can't be harder than goin' after a nest of vampires.

Haven't really stuck around after the sirens t'find out.

[Dean takes another swig of the beer.]

Pretty sure there'd be a line t'tan my hide.

Don't look at me.

[She shrugs.]

I expect you to do stupid shit.

[And somehow come out with your hide intact.]
