It's Block Party time! June 7th to June 10th!

Summary: It's a Block Party!
Warnings: Possible language, nothing worse then that.

The block outside the Newcomer Community Center had been bustling ever since the block party had been announced little less then a week ago. There had been much to get done, and there was little time to waste. With the cure being distributed, the NPP's stance on everything was very clear: they would find some way to put a smile back on the peoples faces. There were stalls set up next to each other, one or two each for a different company, business, or an individual who set out to be enterprising and had wares to show. Many booths were selling different foods or drinks, while others had games for people to play. Some stalls were handing out fliers, trying to promote their business. Each stall had a sign hanging from if that proclaimed what they were, and what they were selling. There was a large stage in front of the center that was for entertainment; they had all kinds of shows for the people to watch and listen to as they milled about.

Most games didn't cost much, or they were free, as long as the person understood that a small donation would be appreciated. All proceeds from the block party were going to help those who had been affected the worst by this plague; some were still in the hospital with crippling medical bills, and the NPP was determined to help those less fortunate. Security was milling about, just as a standard precaution against stealing, or some kind of protest, and each protester was given something to eat, drink, and an invitation to join in the festivities.

The block party would be happening from Thursday, June 7th, to Sunday, June 10th. It would open at 11:00 am, and close around 5:00 pm. This was to ensure that everyone has plenty of time to get their stall up and more then enough time to take the stall down before sirens. Nothing would be left outside in the darkness, but also give enough time to let people have fun. Especially those who wanted to dunk the NPP members in a big tub of water.

OOC: Everyone can make their own thread! If you are a company or a person who has rented a stall, you can make your own thread, and it will be linked on the main post. Entertainment will be taking place throughout the day, and anyone who signed up can make their own thread or comment around. All games can make their own thread as well. Alcohol is allowed for anyone of the legal drinking age (which is 17, for those unaware!), and security will make sure nothing gets out of hand. There will be protesters on the edge of the block on Friday, but there will be no violence tolerated.

All threads will be linked on the main post for easier navigation. This post will serve for the entirety of the block party, which is from Thursday to Sunday. If you want, you can put the date in the subject line, otherwise it is up to you and your threadmates to decide when things take place. All stalls are set up for everyday of the block party. Don't forget to tag yourself in.

After a few more quick strokes, he finishes, and begins to clean the brush out. When that's done, he reaches for the mirror, and holds it up for Eponine to see. There's a daffodil on her cheek.

"There. You can totally tell it's a flower."

She looks into the mirror, a smile lighting her face.

"Oh monsieur Yosuke! It is beautiful."

She goes to touch it, but stops herself, not wanting to mess it up.
"You are an artist!"

And then, her gaze still fixed on her reflection, she begins to twiddle with her hair, brushing it this way and that, and making various faces, and giggling happily before she stops, embarrassed.

[Yosuke can't help snorting a little at that, though he holds the mirrorfor her until she finishes.]

Since it's on your face, it's good that you like it.

She won't be done for ages. She's almost mesmerised by her image, and is fixing her hair, and rubbing dirt off her other cheek and pulling faces and generally acting like a child.

"I have not seen myself for ages. Not since I first met Marius."

"Put a girl or a bird in front of a mirror..." He teases, but he doesn't pull it away, yet.

"What bird, monsieur?" she looks up at Yosuke and blushes.

"I am sorry. These glasses though, they show you yourself much better than the river or a window can."

She's a little shocked by her appearance. She is even more raggedy and thin than she remembers, and her hair more tangled. But at least her face is clean.

"I guess you've never seen a pet canary." Yosuke shrugs. "They like mirrors better than other birds, even."

He doesn't see anything wrong with Eponine that a bath and a new dress wouldn't cure.

She shakes her head, laughing.

"What would be the use of a canary for me, monsieur? Are they not small? Too small to feed five hungry bellys."

"We do not even have a mirror. There is the river, of course - but it has a tendency to wrinkle itself when I peer in and my face smudges in it's ripples...

Monsieur? May I - Oh may I paint you now? I will be careful, I promise."

Well, okay. She should probably talk to someoneabout her habit of eating small woodland creatures. Yosuke grimaces a bit, but decides it would be too rude to say something.

"Remind me to take you for a steak some day."

Though he's not thrilled at the idea of being painted, himself -and he's already sporting a little frog on the inside of one wrist- he finds it hard to say no. With a sigh, he rolls up his sleeve and exposes one bony bicep. "Nothing to embarrassing, okay? It attracts the kind of customers I don't need."

"Beggars can't be choosers. And when you want customers, you take anyone, monsieur. Even if they vomit on you."

She laughs again, to show that she is joking, before she picks up a brush and jabs, hard, into the red paint. The brush is now splayed and the paint has a hole in it.

"Sorry. I'll... I'll pay, monsieur."

Yosuke splutters, partly because of the paint, and partly because he's flustered by the joke. His cheeks go pink again, and he ducks his face, though his hair still isn't long enough to fall in front of his eyes like he wants it to.

"It's a liquid, be more gentle!" He urges, deciding not to comment on the vomiting customer remark. He still can't decide if he's pleased or just humiliated with that experience, though he's fairly certain it's a hefty mix of both.

She's not brilliant at being delicate, but she tries her best, plunging the brish back into the paint before etching the start of a crude cat shape onto his arm. It's childish, the atrwork of a first or second grade child, and she presses hard with the brush, trying to make her red cat look right.

"Ow, hey!" Yosuke complains. He's a bit on the delicate side himself, as far as boys go, though of course he would disagree. Even if the cat looks silly, that'll wash off later when Eponine isn't looking anymore. But there's no need to scrape his arm up in the process.

"I'm sorry."

She didn't mean to hurt. She just doesn't know how to properly hold a paintbrush, so everything's a bit ham fisted. She puts the brush down, dissapointed.

"That looks terrible."

Yosuke has to bite his tongue so he doesn't end up agreeing with her, or worse, laughing. Instead, he sets about cleaning up the mess. "Don't worry, I'm no good either. You should have seen me trying to figure out how to make a grown man look like a tabby cat." He shook his head. "I had to paint whiskers over his whiskers!"

She giggles. "That would be hard. Can you paint beards, then?"

She looks round at the other stalls. "Do you not wish to join in and look round?"

"It's tricky but not impossible." Yosuke responds, as he rinses the brush off. After that's done, he starts to wipe up the flecks of paint.

"I went and got some onigiri earlier. And I stopped to dunk Creed-San in the tank, too."

She has no idea what onigiri is, so she doesn't comment. But the other bit catches her attention.

"Why are people being - did you say 'dunked' - in a tank. Have they broke the law?"

He grins at that, and shakes his head. "It's a carnival game. Is this your first one?"

"My first carnival? Of course! I don't believe anyone would have seen its like in France."

She grinned. "It's lovely though - everything! And people give away food. As much as you want. And did you see the dolls? Such lovely dolls!"

Free food? He definitely hadn't gotten any of that. Though he supposed if he ran a food booth, he probably wouldn't have charged a girl like Eponine, either. She was so thin. His cheeks went pink again at the thought, but he shook his head, half in response to her question and half to shake away the thoughts.

"No, I didn't see any dolls. But I guess I wasn't looking, either."

She nods. "Yep. I even tried tea. Don't like it though. Don't know why the rich people drink it all the time. And the dolls. Such beautiful ones with real hair and eye lashes."

That's what she wants - a doll.

[He really doesn't see the appeal of dolls, but he nods anyway.]

That's cool.
