It's Block Party time! June 7th to June 10th!

Where: The block outside the Newcomer Community Center
Summary: It's a Block Party!

The block outside the Newcomer Community Center had been bustling ever since the block party had been announced little less then a week ago. There had been much to get done, and there was little time to waste. With the cure being distributed, the NPP's stance on everything was very clear: they would find some way to put a smile back on the peoples faces. There were stalls set up next to each other, one or two each for a different company, business, or an individual who set out to be enterprising and had wares to show. Many booths were selling different foods or drinks, while others had games for people to play. Some stalls were handing out fliers, trying to promote their business. Each stall had a sign hanging from if that proclaimed what they were, and what they were selling. There was a large stage in front of the center that was for entertainment; they had all kinds of shows for the people to watch and listen to as they milled about.

Most games didn't cost much, or they were free, as long as the person understood that a small donation would be appreciated. All proceeds from the block party were going to help those who had been affected the worst by this plague; some were still in the hospital with crippling medical bills, and the NPP was determined to help those less fortunate. Security was milling about, just as a standard precaution against stealing, or some kind of protest, and each protester was given something to eat, drink, and an invitation to join in the festivities.

The block party would be happening from Thursday, June 7th, to Sunday, June 10th. It would open at 11:00 am, and close around 5:00 pm. This was to ensure that everyone has plenty of time to get their stall up and more then enough time to take the stall down before sirens. Nothing would be left outside in the darkness, but also give enough time to let people have fun. Especially those who wanted to dunk the NPP members in a big tub of water.



OOC: Everyone can make their own thread! If you are a company or a person who has rented a stall, you can make your own thread, and it will be linked on the main post. Entertainment will be taking place throughout the day, and anyone who signed up can make their own thread or comment around. All games can make their own thread as well. Alcohol is allowed for anyone of the legal drinking age (which is 17, for those unaware!), and security will make sure nothing gets out of hand. There will be protesters on the edge of the block on Friday, but there will be no violence tolerated.

All threads will be linked on the main post for easier navigation. This post will serve for the entirety of the block party, which is from Thursday to Sunday. If you want, you can put the date in the subject line, otherwise it is up to you and your threadmates to decide when things take place. All stalls are set up for everyday of the block party. Don't forget to tag yourself in.

[Daedalus smiles uncomfortably, taking to offered towel with some relief to be done with his 'duties'. Raul's idea of a field day can include lighter participation on his part, next time.]

Ah, that I did.

[He sighs, shaking his head. To be out at all after so much work since the outbreak is tiring, and at home and in bed would have been the more ideal way to pass the weekend.

But at least the crowd and celebration is tolerable and pleasant, right?]

Finally off the hook- Enjoying yourself?

[He is surprised to see the doctor so up and about -- but ah, has he not likened medicine to soldiering on more than one occasion? Daedalus is likely just as good at forcing himself into awareness as Sephiroth is, suppressing the exhaustion in favor of what must be done.]

It is gratifying to see so many out and about, especially after the trouble we've had.

[Which is somewhat of an evasive answer, but this is Sephiroth. He does however lean closer: it is the distance of conspirators, and his next words are imparted in a murmur.]

The next time Mister Creed suggests any sort of festivity, I am going to make certain that every available dunking tank in the Port is otherwise occupied.

Mmhm.

[He is grateful for the worst of his work to be over- to be freed up enough to take part in this humiliation ritual is at least a sign that things are not so dire at the hospitals.]

Recovery has been swift.

[And Daedalus smirks at Sephiroth's subversive offer, bowing his head]

That would be ideal. Perhaps they'll be getting out cream pies next time, instead.

(...which I wouldn't mind so much, not if they were Gilbert's.)

I am glad to hear. I hope you've the chance for your own recovery soon as well.

[Daedalus must be running on near to empty by now, with all the long shifts he'd put in at the hospital. That he's up and participating in the festivities is something, and Sephiroth makes a mental note to keep an eye out for the man as the day goes by, just to make sure he's keeping up okay.]

Nothing raises more funds than the thought of embarrassing people, hmm? [But the cure for that strange illness is expensive, and they need to raise money for it and for the NPP's other work. It's worth the humiliation.] I am not sure that pies would be much better. A waste of food, certainly.

Apparently that's how it works around here. [Daedalus agrees dryly, nodding.] You should hear about the time doing a calendar and date auction came up at committee meeting.

Not just here, I am sure. Embarrassment seems a universal motivator. [A beat.] Or a deterrent, whatever the case may be.

[Also, that idea? Horrifying.] Please tell me it was shot down.

Well, it gets tabled time and again, every time Raul Creed feels we're running dry of fresh ideas.

Perhaps we should call it a motivator for other ideas to be thought up.

Though, I am sure there are those who would enjoy that sort of thing. [Genesis springs to mind...]

Ah, of that I've little doubt. But I'm a bit more private of a person.

That makes the two of us.

[Which is why this dunk tank is a horrible idea, really. Fully clothed may as well be not clothed at all, for all that wet cloth clings to skin and shows off one's shape anyway. Sephiroth does not relish the possibility of catcalls, having been victim to them the day before as well.]

I suppose we can only hope that it never passes. Or if it does, that there are enough outgoing volunteers that those who would rather not, do not have to model.
